Convincing 4th Edition players to consider 5th Edition

Nope. Balance is not necessary for fun.

    Hey! Really??

As much as I would like to take credit for it Samuel Johnston is first credited for the saying. His meaning probably wasn't what you would think though - he wasn't disparaging patriotism itself (he was quite an outspoken advocate of the British Empire) but rather the tendency for people to use...

    Hey! Really??

Most likely it is from GoogleAds - it helps them get rid of it if you can provide the link details of the ad in question. dajr is the guy to see about it I think. edit - that's weird - Umbran's post was not there when I replied but now it is - with a time stamp 14 minutes before my post...

    Slack Player

Nonsense. Kicking a player out is always an option. Just an undesired option. Are the rest of the players in this group really happy that your games 'has ground to a halt'? Does that make the game fun to play? Do none of the other players even see the problem this guy is creating? Still...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Edition Reprints

    1) I think the gilded pages thing has been dropped - it doesn't appear in the linked text anymore (likely it was an early thought that didn't get deleted from the ad-copy by mistake) 2) I hope they make new covers for them myself. Faux leather would be really cool but likely make them too...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Edition Reprints

*headdesk* Well played, sir. Well played indeed. ;) On another note - what did people think of the survey about a future 'best of 3E' book? I voted mainly for supplemental books like Draconomicron, Stormwrack and the like. I also asked in the comments for the book to be big - 300+ pages...

So now that dictionary quotes are being thrown at people is it safe to say this thread has lost its initial point?

    D&D 5E (2014) A traditionalist at heart, a NEW mechanic I desperately want from 5e.

Nice strawman there, Sparky. I don't think anyone was asking for that least of all the OP. You should really learn to control yourself. Yes, knowledge checks can work for most monsters but I don't ever recall the sense motive/insight skills working to let you know if someone was actually a...

So they'll all be like dragons? Dragons - coloured-coded for your convenience since 1977!

D&D 5E (2014) Would you like to see a complex social interaction module early in 5E?

How about we not ascribe motives to others that are unjustified? Naw that ain't D&D!

    Evil Socities in DnD

Here's an anecdotal example of what happened when I added a little racial tension to my fledgling Mystra campaign. I modified the core world so that it was the nation of the Eladrin whom the Shadow Elves invaded (the Wood Elf nation was separate but did take in many of the refugees from the...

Pathfinder 1E Help with a Power Gamer [Pathfinder]

This seems to be a very common complaint about the Summoner/Synthesist/Eidolon combo. It is a very overpowered build and is only going to get worse. Personally I would be loathe to have the player dump the PC if he's had him since 1st level. About the only thing I would suggest is a little...

Pathfinder 1E Sticker shock, or Why Paizo and Other Online Vendors have sent me back to Mead

See I know shipping is expensive but what I really dislike is seeing that while shipping cost a company $6 (according to the label on the package) they ended up charging me $11. Five bucks to put it in a box and stuff newspaper around it? No thanks. This is why I do so little online ordering...

Pathfinder 1E Sticker shock, or Why Paizo and Other Online Vendors have sent me back to Mead

Is this place no good? They're right in Saint Charles. You might have better luck buying it in brick & mortar stores. Online shopping, while convenient, is rarely cheaper once shipping is factored in, ime. Paizo makes some great products but the money they charge for shipping is high.

Pathfinder 1E Sticker shock, or Why Paizo and Other Online Vendors have sent me back to Mead

You're lucky you don't live in Canada then. Shipping from the US is insanely expensive - but not as much as shipping within Canada itself!! Also doesn't Amazon still offer free shipping with a minimum order? For Amazon.ca you only need a $25 order to get free shipping. Don't know what...

Hero Points / Action Points - Yay or Nay?

This to me is a prime example of what the 'rule modules' should be tackling. I've used APs in the past (one of the most common usages I found? In 3E using an AP to duplicate the effects of a feat you didn't have for a round - I saw more APs burned this way than any other bar 4Es rather dull...

    Turning the HP/Healing Dial

I like the recovery of character level + CON modifier in hp/day with normal rest. I would probably go to double that with complete bed rest (i.e no traveling, fighting or even strenuous exercise). As for starting hps I'm starting to like my own idea of warrior types (fighter, paladin...

    Awfully Alarmed About Armour

I have to disagree. I don't want the fighter to have the best AC - I want the fighter to be the guy who can take the most punishment. The Rogue can have a great AC but just a FEW hits should have him either running for the cleric or unconcious in a puddle of his own blood. Those same hits...

    AD&D 1st Edition Reprints Previews

Oh treasure tables - how I've missed you. Couldn't really go with those numbers in any post 2E D&D game though - the wealth even the most modest of them generates (except J-N) is way over the WBL guidelines for a single encounter.

    EN World: Better?

I too love the 2 column layout - much easier than having to scroll through half a dozen articles to read the ones I missed a few days before.
