    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

This doesn't mean what we are saying was wrong. I still think SR is tied to it's ruleset. This is going to make a lot of fans nervous. But if they can pull off the update as well as WOTC did with 3E, it will put fan fears to rest. But I get the feeling it's going to split the player base if...

    D&D 4E Why 4E?

But is it anything like my home-brew Eberron setting?

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

Exactly. As I pointed out earlier, AEG tried this with their L5R RPG with the Rokugan books. They wanted to pick up new players, but it ended up distracting them from their original fans. No one new came to the game from it, but they managed to splinter their fans into people who played L5R...

    D&D 4E Why 4E?

While I am glad that little fad has gone away, I'm ready for THIS little fad to go away too. But everything has been a fad here ate one point in time. Low magic, 4e, Eberron, home brews before that, and so on. There's always something trendy being talked about on forums. I propose that the...

    Tell me about RIFTS

If you're over the age of 16, chances are you won't find much enjoyment in Rifts. It's clunky, totally unbalanced, and the quality of the books range from poor to flung poo. On the benefits... well, it's inexpensive, there's lots of books out there for it, it's popular among the early teen...

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

Actually there was a huge fear among L5R fans (myself included) that if the d20 system caught on, AEG would drop their in house system in favor of continuing the d20 books. Thankfully that wasn't the case, because d20 did a rather poor job of keeping the "Rokugan" feeling that was in the L5R...

Looking for a 3.5 game in OKC, OK

Looking for a game to play in! There has to be SOME group in Oklahoma. I know it's the ass end of the country, but I know at least a few people have to play. Right?

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

Not quite. There's still lots of people who play the d6 version of Star Wars, enough that WEG made a new version of their rulebooks, albeit in a more generic version. And yes, Star Wars isn't tied to a game system, because the RPGs were both built to fit an existing metaplot. You pointing...

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

I'm excited about 4th edition too. As long as they use good binding this time, so the books don't fall apart. :) I really hope they streamline the combat though, it has scared alot of people off. It needs to be more friendly to learn. I love the system, but the complexity of combat, magic...

    Disguise and taking 20

oh, and taking 20 does NOT mean someone does 20 times. It means they try something ONCE, and take extra special precautions to do it as perfectly as they can.

    Disguise and taking 20

That's being a little to generous, are you saying every first level peasent in your game has a 12 wisdom and max ranks in spot?

    Falling from Flying Mounts

Well, since Feather Fall is now a reaction instead of a free action, they could always cast that, providing they have the ability. Falling 90 feet takes a few seconds, though, so I would let them take an action before they hit the ground, in case they could cast Fly or some such.

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

The problem is that those are just words. There is nothing in Shadowrun that makes someone a "street samurai". Only have a cyberdeck and datajack is all that's required to be a decker. In fact, the only thing in Shadowrun that resembles a class are the various mage types. but even that...

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

While SRs characters are flexible, I don't think you can really be a "swiss army knife character". You can be a decker/fighter/mage/rigger/sneak, yeah, but you're not going to be good at anything. A Gimp of Many Things. If you have a group of smart players, you will learn to focus on a couple...

    D&D 4E OT: Shadowrun 4E announced

Hehe, that's not all. In Shadowrun, abilties take a much different roll then in D20. Strength in SR doesn't tell you just how hard you hit someone, it tells you how high your melee skills can be. It would be like saying that a fighter with a strength of 14 in D&D would have a capped BAB of...
