Definitions and Boundaries between Fantasy and Science Fiction

As a kid my view was that anything with futuristic stuff was science fiction, and anything with magic, dragons, or based on a medieval time period was fantasy. Magic and dragons trumped futuristic though, so a story about Merlin and his pet dragon living on Mars and fighting robots in the year...

    Pretty 'happy holidays' banner.

I have javascript switched on in Opera, but Opera's rather picky about what javascript does and doesn't work in it. Come to think of it, the ads seemed to disappear about the time I upgraded Opera from 7.2x to 7.54. I also futzed with my cookie and security settings in Opera and set a few...

    Sections in a Bookstore/Library

I agree with Undead Pete, except that I like Literature seperated out from General Fiction.

    Pretty 'happy holidays' banner.

For some reason I don't see any banner ads on EN World, although I used to. It's not an Opera thing either, because I checked in IE and they don't show up there either. I actually kind of miss them.

Seeking poetry for bard -- good source of limericks?

Which really makes them useless for D&D, since few worlds have a place called Nantucket. Though for anyone looking for bard-type songs, Canteria is the place to go.

    My Turn for I. E. 6 Problems

If you're using Windows XP, next time you might try making a Restore Point before installing or uninstalling any software or making any changes to system settings or the like. System Restore has saved me a time or two in similar situations.

    Is this you(r GM)?

My DM does this some. MMIII and Libris Mortis have been very common sights during the game sessions since he got them. Though with MMIII I think he was trying to race to use the new monsters before the monster-memorizing player got the book and had it memorized. The DM lost that race. My DM...

Seeking poetry for bard -- good source of limericks?

Or Google Groups it. There's a newsgroup devoted to limericks, though I don't remember if it's in the alt.* or rec.humor.* hierarchy. Years ago when I used to lurk there, they'd respond to spammers with limericks. It was quite amusing at times. Also quite Grandma-unfriendly (as limericks in...

Which die do you use the most?

d8. My last two characters both used d8s for damage and hit dice. I was actually getting tired of d8s, so my current character is a fighter with a greataxe. Unfotunately his backup weapon is a heavy mace, so I'm still not entirely free of the d8s.

    Distributed computing project for ENWorlders

Question about the World Community Grid project. You mention it's corporate owned. Does that mean the company that owns it will be using the results strictly for themselves, or will they be freely sharing with the scientific community at large?

What exactly makes Math hard to some people?

In my experience the only thing school is very good at measuring is whether or not you're very good at school. So don't sweat it. Despite what your teachers may say, the real world seldom works like they describe it, and very little of what you learn after the 8th grade and before you start...

Looking For a Rule: Hitting Wrong Target When Attacking Grapplers

Thanks everyone, it was driving me crazy not being able to find that rule. It's also nice to have it clarified that it's only missile attacks that risk hitting the wrong target in a grapple.

PHB Style - New Posts Not Bold Anymore?

No problem. I can get by in the short term. While I'm posting, thanks for all the stuff you do and for the fact that you don't just respond with something like "I like, that's the way it is, so deal with it" when people come here and don't like changes.

Looking For a Rule: Hitting Wrong Target When Attacking Grapplers

I'm having one of those "did I imagine that?" moments in regards to a 3.5 rule about grappling. I clearly remember there being a rule that if you attempt to attack someone who is in a grapple, you have a 50% chance to hit the wrong target in the grapple. Problem is I can't find the rule. It's...

PHB Style - New Posts Not Bold Anymore?

It wasn't like this for me yesterday, but today the PHB style isn't showing new posts in bold text anymore. I haven't changed anything on my end. I really miss the bold text, as it's the easiest way for me to tell if a thread has new posts or not. Doesn't matter to me which one (even the...

    Any Gamers in South Carolina?

If Clemson isn't too far of a commute for you, you might check out the RPGA. I was looking at their events calendar recently for anything within about a 90 minute drive of me, and it seems there are RPGA gamedays at Clemson rather frequently. I haven't been down to the area in ages, but if...

Put your PC to work! ENWorld Grid Computing Team

Neat idea. I'm already doing Stanford's folding@home via the Google Toolbar client, and I don't wanna switch clients. Though if someone starts an ENWorld team on folding@home I'll gladly abandon Google's team and join the ENWorld one.

PC histories/backstories -- help, hindrance, neither?

Gneech, I hear you about not getting character backgrounds when I DM. Which is a shame, because usually at least one or two of my players also DM, and I'd really like a chance to show them how cool it can be to have a DM integrate bits of their character background into the game. Quasqueton...

For new players, it's hard to beat the Hero Builder's Guidebook

I thought people didn't like it because it wasn't overstuffed with new feats, spells, prestige classes, magic items, monsters, and mundane equipment but instead was all about helping inspire you to come up with an idea for a character.
