My son is new to the hobby - which game to start him on?

Sage or 4e would be a good choice.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder BETA - Some Sizzle, Not Much Steak

Again, what board was this where this happened? It certainly wasn't this one.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder BETA - Some Sizzle, Not Much Steak

All that change does is make spellcasters even more powerful. Right now the only thing even theoretically limiting casters is that they are supposed to spreading their spells over several encounters. Your change makes it easy for them to just blow all their spells up front.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder BETA - Some Sizzle, Not Much Steak

This was my main thought as I looked through the pdf... I had been under the impression that it was going to be more of a 3.75, but to me it looked more like 3.55. Right now it seems to be just in the middle of that lukewarm spot where it changes just enough things that people already satisfied...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder BETA - Some Sizzle, Not Much Steak

After skimming through the pdf, I have to agree with the OP. From what I see, it's essentially just 3.5 turned up to 11. And it just reconfirms for me that I can never go back to that system. I'm happy that some people will get support for their system but it's clear that it's not for me.

Critical hits and strikers class features

Sneak Attack, Hunter's Quarry, and Warlock's Curse are maximized on criticals.

Promises, promises...what WotC said, and actually did, with 4E

Can I sig this? Anyways, I think when the more-fluff-oriented editions have silly stuff like jello monsters, it kind of negates the idea that being crunch-centric results in silly, unbelievable fluff. To me anyways.

Shhhh. Don't forget the gelatinous cube.

    Soldier of the Faith overpowered?

You have to read the whole clause. It's not "first time...period." It's "first time...BEFORE," the before referring to the start of your next turn. This applies to every turn where the Divine Challenge is still active.

    Soldier of the Faith overpowered?

How do you arrive at that interpretation?

    Soldier of the Faith overpowered?

As far as I can tell, Soldier of the Faith does not have the same restriction on it that other multiclass feats have. If you challenge one enemy, as long as you maintain that challenge it lasts until then end of the encounter. This seems overpowered compared to the other feats which grant you...

Careful Attack/Sure Strike: A mathematical analysis

Twin Strike is not really too good. It's certainly one of the best powers but it does a reasonable amount of damage for a striker.

New errata posted, stealth changes official

Yep, it targets Reflex now. It might actually be useful now, though I'd still almost always take Disruptive Strike over it.

Maybe different versions just have different goals, and that's okay.

Except it's impossible in D&D to get wounds that actually mean anything.

WotC to Revise D&D 4th Edition GSL and SRD

Can we now put to bed the ridiculous idea that WotC wanted to get rid of 3pp support?

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

That's exactly it. Most of the buffs in the game are either minor actions or part of a standard attack action. It's not like 3.x where you had to either choose being support all the time or just play an uber-cleric who ignores healing.

    Glass jaw of PC defenses

With a cloak, your defenses at level 30 will be minimum 31. Add maybe a +3 modifier on your worst save. That's an auto-hit.
