Do You Prefer to Play a Human PC When RPGing?

The responses in this thread make me think that, with regard to mechanics, either humans and dwarves are too strong, or the other races are too weak. The choice of which race to play--human, elf, dwarf, gnome, halfling, half-elf, half-orc--should not be an easy one to make from a purely nuts &...

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

Did you miss that it's a swift action to shift back and forth? As long as it's a swift action, there's no loss of spellcasting ability for the character--he just can't do it in animal form. I really don't see the problem, unless you want to be the distantly flying nuking druid, in which case, I...

Do You Prefer to Play a Human PC When RPGing?

I prefer to play a character that inspires me. If it's human, great. If not, great. This is not a nuance that the poll allows for.

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

Not at all. He's grandfathered. I'm not going to force him to rebuild a lvl 9 druid from the ground up mid-campaign. Besides, he's attached to Skellig and would miss him.

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

Honestly, I think you should see it in play for a while before judging it. YMMV, but experience is the best illustrator. Stacks like rage. It's a little funky when meshing a razorclaw shifter (claws are primary) with the predator form (bite is primary), but the synergy is much better with the...

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

I have actually seen a shapeshift druid in play for several sessions now. I don't think he suffers in combat at all. The character is attached, if you'd like to look at him. He's built on a 28-point buy (give or take). Scroll down for his shapeshift forms. Quite frankly, after seeing him get...

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

I don't agree that a shapeshift druid is "significantly" weaker than a wildshape druid. On what premise do are you basing this argument? The fact that the druid loses racial bonus feats? Racial skills? Special qualities? Access to magic items? Those four things, taken together, are what make...

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

Seems like I'm in the minority opinion here. I think shapeshift is perfectly viable for a single-classed druid. And personally, I'd let him regain an animal companion with a feat. It is true that wildshape is a more powerful ability. No doubt about it. And to me, that's part of the problem...

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

...which says to me, it's a viable alternative to wildshape. :)

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

Yeah. The lack of access to Natural Spell is not much of an issue to a druid who can shift back and forth as a swift action, and the fact that your type remains humanoid is huge when thinking of enlarge person and other such spells. You still get to powergame a shapeshift druid, it's just that...

    Shapeshift druid vs regular druid

That would be me. I think shapeshift is fantastic, and even as a player I prefer it for its simplicity and uniformity. I can't wait to make a shapeshift druid/rogue in some future campaign. I like that shapeshift is not a headache and sets realistic boundaries on the "wildshape" ability...

Detect evil as a spell-like ability--no visual indications?

This is one I go back and forth about. Per RAW, if detect evil is used as a spell-like ability, there is no indication that a character is using it other than a focused concentration on a particular area. Correct? If so, how does one rationalize allowing a Spellcraft check to discern whether a...

Checking : Favored soul's spell DC is based off wis?

Throw in turn undead, remove the cleric, and the FS easily becomes a campaign's primary healer. Especially if the PHBII variant ability--deity's favor, which adds levelx3 temporary hit points to each buff or heal cast--is used.

Checking : Favored soul's spell DC is based off wis?

I didn't force Waljan to switch, merely offered. He kept wildshape. But going forward, no more wildshape. It's just too much of a headache, and besides, we all know that druids are one of the most powerful classes in the game anyway. Shapeshift is both a fix for the throbbing headache that has...

Oh, FYI, IMC... Say so long to wildshape, and hello to shapeshift. Thank you, dice gods, for the PHBII.

Your argument was "useless." That's all I'm refuting. YMM (and apparently does) V.

Checking : Favored soul's spell DC is based off wis?

Oh, I don't agree. I've seen characters use it to great effect on a continual basis over the course of multiple campaigns. It's highly valued around here.
