D&D 4E 4e -- Is The World Made Of Cheese?

Gee, thanks. You got anything to say about the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus while you're at it?

    Minion Criticals

Well, a 20 isn't automatically a crit even for PCs. If the result of 20 + their mods would actually miss, then it only counts like a normal hit. In my mind, saying that minions never do extra damage from a crit is very similar to this. Also, when running minions, it's fun not to make it...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

This may be true, but if it is, they need to tell us that. It's not good enough to expect someone to crunch the numbers ahead of time and figure it out. Or realize it after a dozen skill challenges that the PCs never seem to be able to win. I'm going with they didn't know.

add 1/2 level to ability checks? What? Why?

Well, reaching 30th level requires around 290 encounters not including quest/roleplaying XP and other rewards. If you figure an extended rest after every three encounters... he's had about 97 of those six hour power naps. If one of them can heal you of all wounds, refresh your healing surges...

    Perception: We've all gone blind!

I think his point was that the +5 from training is a big bonus at 1st level. Later on, not so much because of getting 1/2 level bonuses and such. So, you drop it when it's no longer necessary. Heck, maybe the PCs can take turns being the Perception jockey. Start up a table with rotation based...

Naw, it's 4e, they use batteries.

    Collected Core Handbook Errata

No, it's not an error, because it's not a natural progression. Read the descriptions on 213 for a fluff explanation as to why chain has a penalty and scale doesn't. Also, note the Armor Spec. feats on 202. The chain one reduces it's armor check penalty, so it definitely has one.

    Healing Potions seem woeful

Either I wasn't clear enough, or you misread what I said. My point was exactly that. If the DM does not adapt/change the situation based on the players' choices, that's railroading. Not allowing the players a chance to follow the path that they have chosen for themselves. Railroading is...

    Core Handbook Errors Discussion

How about "A close burst power allows you to target creatures or objects" page 56. So maybe only bursts and blasts can target objects. I don't know, I guess they should have spelled it out better. Yet another error. I would just apply common sense and let character use anything that the DMG...

I refer you to page 65-66 of the DMG; especially, the very first sentence of 66.

Another Broken Combo: Seal of Binding and Divine Regeneration

That's nice, but not everything that's being put up here and in other threads is so black and white as to what was intended and what is written. How long has that been debated about the American constitution, a document so much shorter than this? Where's the line between being overpowered and...

Well, falling does the same thing. Does that mean that the floor is attacking the enemy? ;)

    Healing Potions seem woeful

That doesn't say much. Throwing a bunch of PCs at an encounter five levels above their own will surely result in deaths when playing any edition of D&D rules. Does the fact that two five-headed hydras or a chain devil can kick the crap out of a first level 3.5e party say anything worthwhile...

    Healing Potions seem woeful

Yeah, that way when they win, they know they've actually achieved something. They'll thank you for it.

Am I missing something? Spellcasters and armor?

Yeah, I know that, that's why I said it wasn't the best example. And it's a bit more complicated than that. Whether or not he was a god. When he became a god, etc. Actually, he'd be a good example of the Demigod Epic Destiny according to some historians. Anyway, he wasn't just a strong man...

    Healing Potions seem woeful

It doesn't take any suspension of disbelief to have the undead army win, now does it? Are DMs not allowed to kill PCs anymore? Is that what heroic means? My character will no longer die. Hell, that gives that fighter the perfect opportunity to go down in a blaze of glory. Maybe they'll be...

Cleric powers' "ally can spend a healing surge"

Ummm... isn't that exactly what I said? It can't mean anything other than that, can it? And, I believe you are correct sable, an item is either a daily or a healing surge. So, recharge away!!

    Core Handbook Errors Discussion

Heh, I don't think you can get d10s anymore that are numbered 1-10 instead of 0-9, can you? Well, anyway, they aren't standard. I think the only "d10"s that I have that are numbered 1-10 are actually 20 sided with each number on two faces from back in the day. We were purists back then...
