I don't see the value
It's like when someone makes a book into a movie and then makes major changes to the plot to "adapt" it. Just... why bother?
If they were going to change everything, why not do Ravenloft but just do all new domains? Or dodge the issue and do Innistrad
(My friend who cares...
Then broaden your horizons
I don't know much about Ravenloft so I checked its subreddit, one of the fan sites, and a facebook group. And they're not happy
But if updating a campaign setting and doing it in a way that upsets most of the fans of that setting, why update at all?
If the audience for VAN RICHTEN'S GUIDE TO RAVENLOFT is a bunch of gamers who never heard of Ravenloft and don't have all the old books, why not do something new? They'd be...
Bronze probably came from medals. Gold, silver, bronze
Copper is a good fourth choice for coins
Brass? That one always seemed lazy to me. Same color as gold. Platinum makes more sense to keep with coins
It was probably a joke from some early game. Like the adventurers met a golden dragon that...
From what I've seen in the previews and compared with the Ravenloft fan wikia, more seems to have changed than remained the same
Means the answer is apparently to not pick between existing versions and just start fresh, dumping anything the author's dislike but keeping the names
I look forward...
I imagine the difference is now there's so many more newbs who don't give a flip about old lore and continuity changes, there'll be less bother about the revisions
Expect to see an equally changed Dragonlance or Greyhawk now
Why wouldn't the reboot and change everything the author's didn't like?
That's what they did for the Forgotten Realms in 4th Ed, for Dragonlance SAGA, and Greyhawk after GREYHAWK WARS. And the fans all universally loved those products and they became the new standards for those settings.
So my arcane trickster monk character can cast a spell, move forward 2 sq, stab, stab, stab, stab, disengage, and move back 4 sq?
And if I drop a level of barbarian or fighter I could rage AND second wind at the same time?
Play with friends
Have a friend who was also curious. Plan is getting a small stack of set cards that we can use to build our own decks, test different colors and customize. But also not worry about having to compete with other players or give a flip about the metagame.
Never touched Magic before. Was a Pokemon player for a time and might be neat to do the DnD Magic. Just buy and build decks with that set as a one-and-done
Super confused by where to start
According to the releases there the "Collector Booster Packs," "Draft Booster Packs," as well as just...
Just haven't seen any real information on a July book
The source of the rumor seems to be speculation related to a single Twitter comment from an unverified account stating "D&D will be increasing the cadence of its releases" with posters focusing on the word "increasing" and not "cadence" then...
Unsubstantiated rumors and wishful thinking then
Check out the product catalog

Whole mess of products in 2020. 23 of them. Still only four new RPG books
A new card game or board game or map pack could still be a "major product."
Yes. All signs point...
Getting the impression it's being designs as a series of adventures
Your characters get yanked into Ravenloft by the Mists, do the one key story for that Domain, kill the Dark Lord and escape
A few Domains might have more going on, but you'll likely have to invent that yourself. Cause they've...
Not as experienced a DM as some of ya’ll. But when I started running I asked my DM for tips and she said “never ask for a roll if failing ain’t interesting.” Looking at the Medicine skill the penalty for failure is waiting another hour. Or two. That ain’t very interesting
Reading the rules, the...
That still doesn't explain where the idea of a July book came from
And assumes that all three products are DnD RPG books and not miscellany sets or a new DnD Annual
Still haven't seen any link to citation to someone from WizCo mentioning a July book or fifth RPG book
Could be new adventure in...
Last three adventures were in September. Imagine that will be the focus
Any July release will likely be something small, like WILDERNESS KIT that just appears on Amazon with a wet thud of fanfare
