D&D 5E (2014) Optimal build for mulitclass kensei (monk)/samurai (fighter)?

I played a Kensei and found him a bit more fragile than I expected. Pick kensei weapons that you can throw or that have reach. Daggers, handaxes. If you're set on Samurai Fighter, then make sure your katana is a kensei weapon of course, and maybe go fighter first.

D&D 5E (2014) Which three topics do you most want to receive official (WotC) treatment?

Agree on the Planes. 2 of the three things that I voted for are so far the most popular choices so I see I'm not alone.

D&D 5E (2014) What do you want in a Dark Sun book (sans psionics)?

A good mechanic for Arcane Defiling and the Dark Sun monsters.

D&D General Why are spells grouped into "levels"?

If it comes up in character, they have to call it something. If your character says, 'Nubu you are not initiated into the 3rd circle of instruction. No fireballs for you.' That makes sense. So does saying, 'Hargen, at your level of mastery, an eldritch blast is unlikely to stop that thing before...

D&D General Why are spells grouped into "levels"?

Having 17 levels of spells would be way more complicated. The designers wanted to limit spells as a resource ie so many of x level per day. For that to work with spell level equaling character level there would be spells that were 2nd level that are now first, 2nd level spells that are now...

D&D General Half Angel Half Demon

I found it. It was in the 3e MM3 It's called the Concordant Killer. That was the creature that I was thinking of. I knew I remembered but it had been long enough to have faded. Thanks Everyone.

D&D General Half Angel Half Demon

One of my players mentioned a hybrid angel/fiend. I seem to remember something like this from a past edition but I don't remember what it was called. I'm fairly sure that I have the WOTC book somewhere but I hope I don't have to look through them all. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

Rule whenever I've played or DM's the player must Wish in character. And suppose you want to duplicate 8th level spell x. It needs an hour to cast costs 1,000gp. and you have to do it at night. Now none of that is true. The effect happens instantaneously as if you met those requirements.

    D&D 5E (2014) Draconic Sorcerer questions

Since you can use spells that do different types of damage, the frequent benefit is the resistance. Fire and poison are going to come up a lot in most games.

D&D 5E (2014) Why did they design Demiplane to suck?

I love it. If the spell is unsatisfactory for what you want, you can craft a spell for a level that you can cast. I concur that 7th seems reasonable or maybe craft an item that does what you want like Mordenkeinen's Closet Door.

    D&D 5E (2014) You encounter 20 orcs ...

Level 5 is pretty low for that many enemies. Yes, a fireball could take out several but you're likely only going to get one of those off. martial types may get two attacks and if you have two in the party, even if they get two kills each you're likely to still have half the enemies left to...

D&D 5E (2014) When RAW goes too far

Some people urgently need more to do. You could indeed fire two loaded hand crossbows in one round. but their being one handed weapons has to do with firing them, not loading them. a longbow is in two hands to fire but does not have the load property that requires loading after firing. If you...

    AD&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

The short answer is that I've played all the editions at least a little and liked the older ones especially 2e but it was way more complex than the newer ones and that's, IMHO the biggest thing that's changed. You don't need a PHD in the rules to pay. With a math minor for doing Thac0. and it...

    Hexblade Question

OK So there was some discussion in another thread so I'll throw this out there as it's own topic. Playing an 11th level Human Hexblade Pact of the blade Warlock. It's my first warlock and I am enjoying the character immensely. As 12th level approaches, feats are allowed and I already have a 20...

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide errata coming

Interesting. I haven't played the other Patrons. Fiend temp hit points is OK. We had a drow player who really liked the Archfey. I considered Great Old One. I might still have done a different patron if I weren't set on Pact of the Blade though. I'm not even using armor and shields, most of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide errata coming

Interesting. When I conceived the character, I did consider doing a paladin, but the using Charisma for attacks with his signature weapon was potent. No MAD but to be fair, he hardly used his weapon in the first few levels. It might have been different if he multi-classed to paladin. Sorcerer...

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide errata coming

True that it hasn't been a big issue in 5e. but in prior editions especially in 4e it was a pretty frequent discussion.

D&D 5E (2014) The Crafting Rules in the PHB are just fine.

My players were doing almost no crafting; Wondered what to do with the gold. I ruled that the times in the DMG were the longest it would take. That losened it up a little. Then I allowed the to craft alchemy items from prior editions. Still not a lot of excitement but they use crafting some...

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide errata coming

I've been playing a single class Hexblade pact of the blade human. Haven't multi-classed to anything. We're at 11th level. I haven't experienced broken. The assassin keeps wanting invisibility and it's effective but what's broken?

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide errata coming

In my games going back years, we agreed that if a player gets affected by errata, we'll do it the errata way beginning with the next new campaign or character if the ability is already in play. Exception; If the player wants to use the errata way but then it's up to them to call it out...
