    HERO System Equipment Guide

Sketchpad, can you give us an idea why you rated the product at only 3 stars? Your review doesn't read like a 3 star (average quality) product: you only mention one minor negative, and use the word "invaluable" several times.

"Do those games have torture?" and other experiences

After looking back at my own post, maybe I deserved it a bit. That said, I agree - this thread needs to focus on the blog, not the posters. My point was simply that my first impression of the site was not positive...to me. I look for intelligent, well-reasoned, and most of all, respectful...

"Do those games have torture?" and other experiences

Note: my comments are meant to be constructive. The first thing I saw when I clicked your link was an offensive and juvenile headline with profanity. If that's what you want to blog about, go for it. Just understand that I immediately clicked away. You may have good content, but the crude...

Use any HeroClix minis in your RPG?

Only for monsters. Several are perfect for Large creatures, such as ogres and trolls. Since I'm not willing to pay collectors' prices for minis produced by WOTC, I've found myself short on the Large creatures. HeroClix are an inexpensive alternative.

Would this be as inappropriate as I think?

Sorry if I'm a bit dense, but if the mechanics in True20 are based on the SRD, aren't they considered OGC, even if different from the SRD? If so, then producing material to use those mechanics would be simply using OGC. If not...well, maybe that's where I'm confused. Or another example: Iron...

What are the biggest rules debates?

Just a quick note: some of those threads quickly degenerated from a legitimate rules discussion into a lot flame, smoke, venom, etc. I gave up on more than one when I realized that there was little to be learned after the second page...

What are the biggest rules debates?

    1. Rope trick. The following words fall into the "What were they thinking?" category of rules design: Note: It is hazardous to create an extradimensional space within an existing extradimensional space or to take an extradimensional space into an existing one. 2. Illusions.

Would this be as inappropriate as I think?

This is the issue I still haven't seen a good answer to (maybe I've just missed it - we got a bit derailed there for a while :) ). Trademarks, brands, "look and feel" are clearly something that a publisher should protect. But if I create material compatible with a ruleset based on OGC, material...

Would this be as inappropriate as I think?

Again, why? Just to be clear, I'm looking at this as a non-publisher, so some things that may seem obvious to you are not to me. Two points here. Obviously, trying to damage another's product is off-limits. So is misrepresenting one's own product as the publisher's. For instance, how many...

Would this be as inappropriate as I think?

Why? If someone produced material intended for use with AE, would it be inappropriate to use the title "Arcana Expanded"? If so, would it be inappropriate to use that title with material intended for use with 3.x spellcasting, not AE? Just how much verbal territory is a publisher allowed to...

    Might and Magic info!

Heroes of Might and Magic HOMM got it's start as an update to the old dos game King's Bounty. KB was quite a bit of fun, but had only one "scenario". Once youi learned the proper tactics, winning was pretty much guaranteed. HOMM I expanded on the ideas in KB, added more than a dash of Warlords...

Has the age of the big book arrived?

Which makes me wonder if this will backfire a bit. I may be willing to try out a new system, or variant, or setting, or whatever, if I can fit it into my time. Reading a 500+ page book is going to look pretty darn intimidating, vs a 256 pager. The extra money (say $40+ vs. $25+) is a minor...

Spycraft + Iron Heroes: street date for the books?

Interestingly enough, Wal Mart shows an arrival date for IH of 8-28-2005. Don't know why it takes them almost a month to ship, unless they just haven't updated the product info.

    Might and Magic info!

Might and Magic RPG's Might and Magic was a real revolution in crpg's when the first installment was released in the 1980's. It was color, had a world packed with things to do, a simple magic system, a ton of items, lots of puzzles, and a decent overall plot. It had a few flaws, such as limited...

What causes boredom in a game session?

I've seen this so many times. A GM creates an npc (that the GM finds fascinating) then doesn't understand why he/she falls flat when introduced to the party. The key is that the characters need something to gain in dealing with the npc. Roleplaying shopping trips is terribly boring to me, unless...

I like a little more science in my science fiction

Yep. I enjoy both types of stories, but if I'm reading science fiction, I usually prefer hard sci-fi. The difference is that hard sci-fi has a solid grounding in science, whereas most sci-fantasy simply uses technobabble to hide the fantasy elements. Basically, it's fantasy in space. Star Trek...
