Exchange Summon Familiar for a magic-related feat

I ended up trading in the Familiar ability for two feats with my most recent character, one at 1st, the other at 11th. Seems to be working out alright.

Losing a level is not fun

Actually, that's a house rule I've been using since 3e came out. It seemed odd to me that two characters of the same level, one with more XP than the other, would both have the same XP after both dying (mid of previous level). Additionally, having to deal with negatives, removing skill points...

Replacing the druid's animal companion ability with the Earth Domain: balanced?

I think just as soon as you provide details regarding the 3r druid, then we can start working.... Otherwise, bad Caliban! Bad! Just because some people around here have the new rules already (PC is guilty of this too) doesn't mean you should tease us with them (not your intention, I hope, but...

D&D 3.x will they nerf the *T* spell for 3.5?

I don't recall where I heard this... but I think they changed Gate to 1 HD/Level instead of 2 HD/Level. And as far as using TS, then flinging a boatload of spells, I've done that before. The trick is to always lead off with Disjunction (yet another spell which spawns debate).

The druid is not fighting!!! LONG!

Hm... anyone of nuetral or evil alignment in the party? I'm currently playing a Sorcerer who would probably kill a character like that. Either that or not rescue him from a threat. But that's how I've been playing the character. My party members understand there is no nonsense here.... Later.

D&D 3.x will they nerf the *T* spell for 3.5?

I agree that TS is a problematic spell. Especially if someone can hurl multiple 9th level spells. In an epic game I'm in, I purposefully did not take TS. I figure if I don't go around locking people in time, then it probably won't happen to me :-). Given that haste has been reduced in...

    Please rate Widen Spell

I think +3 levels is much to high. Considering most of the other "doubling" feats (Extend, Enlarge) only require +1, I find it very odd that Widen is +3 for only a 50% increase.... Consistency! It's important!

Ioun Stone - Vibrant Purple Prism

Hm... hadn't notice that minimum caster level bit before. Makes that ring much less useful than it could be otherwise for that price. You might as well get the rings of wizardry instead.

    Recipe for an Army Killer

This thread turned out to be a little disappointing... How about we hijack it slightly. If you want to wipe out large sections of an army, I'd think Circle of Death would do a better job than Weird. Bigger radius, one save instead of two, level 6 spell instead of 9 (so DC is 3 less), and...

    D&D 3.x Scry skill gone in 3.5e

Let's just say he wouldn't give me a straight answer.... http://pub36.ezboard.com/fgameschat19968frm10.showMessage?topicID=155.topic In addition, Andy offers several alternatives to the Scry skill under his own house rules. Here's what I found on his site...

    Speed Up Item Creation

I meant non-epic as in less-powerful... And I think Magical Artisan should apply for all Item Creation as well.... (yeah, yeah I'm spouting house rules, I know). Later!

    D&D 3.x Scry skill gone in 3.5e

I'd bet a large sum of money Scry is gone. Most likely replaced by Will saves. Why do I say this? Well, I was looking over the Mystic Theurge (sorry to bring it up) and I noticed something peculiar: no Scry skill. Thinking "this can't be right" I posted on Andy Collin's messageboard about it...

Debate: Melee/Unarmed combat Versus Ranged Combat?

I think there is a higher potential for "munchiness" with archer characters. There are several advantages to using a bow, especially if you already have front-line characters in a group.

How to stop players from meta-gaming?

It'll probably exist at some level in all games. However, if the players aren't doing a good job of distinguishing character knowledge from player knowledge then you could use that against them. For instance, the party meets a troll for the first time. Metagame thoughts: fire and acid kills...

    Speed Up Item Creation

I'll second the Efficient Item Creation. Personally, I don't like the fact that the ELH requires a brand new set of feats for making Epic Items *and* Efficient Item Creation only applies to one class of items... I'd house rule EIC to apply to all item creation, and make your constructor 21st...

    Bargaining with Called Creatures

Seems pretty clear to me. The slain outsider remains, corpse and all. The one time ability to return sounds like it is granted to the creature, not something that automatically happens. *Very interesting*, IMO. It is a good thing Gate has a "go away clause", otherwise, a Gated creature might...

    Dual Wand Fighting

I have a house rule for this. If a caster has a wand in each hand, then as a full round action he can fire both of them. Of course, this would require having two wands, drawing both of them, firing, then needing to do something rather quickly.... as the dual wand character will attract a great...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Damage Rduction Rules - am i missing something?

I think I've completely missed this part of 3.5. Someone want to explain to me the new damage reduction system (or provide a good link)? Thanks!

What is the DC for sleeping characters to hear?

I've also heard the "take 0" as the way to go as well. I think it was recommended by the sage.

    New haste on WotC website!

Hm... I don't like it. Changing it to an extra move-equiv might have been enough, but as written, I'm disappointed. The spell seems to make a spellcaster reliant on fighter-types, whereas the old haste allowed a spellcaster to choose a single target to increase his/her power (spells, attacks...
