Human races that make up Mendev?

Hi folks, My group is starting a new Pathfinder campaign, and it is set in Mendev. Out of six characters, 4 or 5 will be human (this never happens in our games, so it's kind of a refreshing change of pace). At least two of the characters will have something to do with the military...

    Gamma World Character Sheet

Has WotC posted a PDF of the new Gamma World character sheet yet? If so, where? Thanks.

Essentials Slayer Build - Not using 2-Handed Weapons

Yeah, I figured as much. What I am looking to do is build a Fighter that is simplistic in nature -like the Essentials Knight class- but without the trappings associated with being a "Knight." I want him to use the classical sword and shield. So should I just make up a Knight and call him a...

The new Gamma World - Thoughts/Questions

Alpha Mutations - I am kind of digging them now. I am actually warming up a bit to the idea of Alpha Mutations now that I have had a chance to get a better feel for them. The random nature of discarding and drawing a new Alpha Mutation every encounter fits with the background a bit better...

The new Gamma World - Thoughts/Questions

There is a regular equipment section. Types of weapons are listed, not individual weapons...then there was a blurb on "what it looks like." In other words, you pretty much define what a Simple One-Handed Melee Weapon would be. There are things like Explorer Kits and whatnot. Seems like all of...

The new Gamma World - Thoughts/Questions

So I picked up the new Gamma World box and several booster packs of cards today on my lunch break. I didn't have too long to skim through it, but I had a couple of observations and I wanted to see what you folks thought. Character Origin - As mentioned in the Wizards preview, origin is...

Essentials Slayer Build - Not using 2-Handed Weapons

Hi folks, How "sub-optimal" would an Essentials slayer build be if I chose to use a one-handed weapon with a shield (taking a feat to allow me to do so)? Thanks.

Classic D&D Basic with 4E Skills System

Hi folks, If you were going to take Classic D&D and add or bolt on the 4E skills system, how would you go about doing it? How many "trained" skills would you give each class? How would you integrate Thief abilities with the 4E skill system? Just a crazy thought, but I am interested to see...

    Light Thrown Weapons and Damage

Thanks for the replies folks. So 'Light Thrown' weapons should get to add DEX bonus to both the roll to-hit as well as the damage roll?

    Light Thrown Weapons and Damage

Hi folks, In skimming through the Rules Compendium last night, I noticed that 'Heavy Thrown' weapons get to add STR bonus to-hit and damage. 'Light Thrown' weapons add DEX to-hit, with no mention of adding STR to damage. Is this correct? Thanks!

    Killing the sense of wonder

A couple of things for me and my gaming group: • Having played D&D for 25+ years and knowing pretty much every aspect of the game thoroughly. • Interrupting the flow of the game to set up the grid-map/tiles and miniatures.

Do any of you still play 3.0?

Hi folks, If you still play 3.0, why do you prefer it to 3.5? Thanks.

D&D 4E Old School 4E Character Sheet (Goldenrod) - Now with Power Cards.

Hi Folks, I haven't had a lot of time lately, but I did manage to correct some obvious errors with the sheet, and implement a few constructive changes. The new sheet and power cards are attached in the post on the first page. Thanks.

    So what happens after 4E?

Hi folks, I have played and enjoyed all editions of the D&D game starting with Basic Moldvay through to 4E. While I enjoy some of them more than others, and actually really like the gameplay of the 4th Edition (and more recently, Essentials), 4E is probably me least favorite edition. That might...

D&D 4E Playing 4E without miniatures and the battle grid.

Thanks for the replies folks. To be honest, I have tried twenty or more different fantasy systems over the last 25+ years of gaming, and while there are some that I absolutely love (Rolemaster, MERP, Runequest), none of those games have the 'flavor' of D&D that I like, and I have found that...

Thanks for the response. That "Fiction First" link isn't working for me. Can someone relink it?

D&D 4E Playing 4E without miniatures and the battle grid.

Hi folks, Is this something any of you do regularly? If so, how does it work, and how do you adjudicate positioning for powers that shift, slide, pull, etc? Does your DM keep a piece of graph paper behind the DM screen and just use that to describe the action to the players? I would like to...

Older Editions and "Balance" when compared to 3.5

The one character I did manage to get to 10th level in AD&D 1E/2E was an Elf Fighter, and I never had any issues with that. I don't dispute your assessment at all....Just wondering why that kind of thing never actually came up when we were playing. :)

Older Editions and "Balance" when compared to 3.5

Hi Hussar, It wasn't my intention to insult anyone who considers themselves to be 'power gamers.' and I wasn't saying that somehow, the players in my gaming group were superior roleplayers with no need for 'that powergaming crap.' Rather, I was just stating that in my own experience, we never...

Older Editions and "Balance" when compared to 3.5

So I know people have issues with how 3.5 was "balanced," and subsequent products like Pathfinder and Trailblazer attempt to "fix" some of the apparent issues that caused headaches for some gaming group. My question to you folks is: How well were the older editions "balanced?" I know my gaming...
