yep, in Low Fantasy Gaming RPG, no player races get darkvision. Makes for a better atmosphere, as you suggest :) I highly recommend implementing your plan, game plays better as a result.

In my view the following are broken elements of 5e: 1. Passive perception 2. the -5/+10 dmg mechanic 3. the part of CE feat that negates shooting in melee disad 4. 3 death saves 5. HP and damage inflation from about 11th upwards. 6. Vengeance paladins

You might consider Low Fantasy Gaming RPG for a more streamlined 5e/more complex OSR game, albeit with a low magic/gritty base.

Yeah I like the personalised abilities of monsters in 13th Age, makes for cool suprises most combats. In Low Fantasy Gaming RPG, all monsters have a special effect on a 19 and/or crit, and some have other abilities (might activate on bloodied, or a breath weapon with a recharge chance, etc).

I personally prefer roll20. It just works. Fantasy Grounds was fiddly with ports and crap, would sometimes work and other times not. Annoying!

How about... on a natural 19+, the target must make a save or roll on an Injuries/setback table. Also, when bloodied, ogres get an attack against everyone in melee with them, and they have a 10 ft reach. That's how Low Fantasy Gaming RPG spices up Ogres (p,120, free PDF...

Yeah, I prefer to remove darkvision from all PC races from the get go. The game is simply more interesting when you cant see in the dark without torches etc.
