    d20 backlash??

I believe so. (I'm no legal expert, but that was indeed my understanding.)

    d20 backlash??

Because the license was for one printing (about 30,000 copies, I think--maybe somewhat more). Then it all got turned over to Chaosium.

Tell me about your best Monty Hall moment!

Funny. Bruce and I were just talking about this. My friends and I were all about 13 and playing already absurdly powerful characters in the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth with a first-time DM (1st edition, of course). It was late at night, and half of us were half asleep. We were finishing off an...

Just finished new Monte Cook adventure - Temple of Mysteries: In Media Res *spoilers*

Yeah, it's meant to be a standalone one-shot kind of thing. If you're inserting it into a regular campaign, you'd probably have to get rid of the dopplegangers altogether, or have the characters they replace be just captured or something. It's too harsh to just kill established characters off...

    Jack Chalker has Passed Away

That's terrible news. He was a very influential writer. I really loved the Well World.

Sad day for Milwaukee gamers: Napoleon's is closing (merged)

To be blunt, that sucks. Napoleons was a great store. I loved going there when I lived in that area. Great selection of games of all kinds. Milwaukeans have certainly suffered a loss here.

Another RPG company with financial difficulties

This is an issue that is important to me. I think writers should get paid well. I certainly wouldn't call Malhavoc "big," but we pay more than what you're stating, and I certainly wouldn't work as a freelancer for the rates you suggest. But then, I don't do hardly any freelance anymore, either...

Monte Cook's - Temple of Mysteries

When I ran it, the first time I think 3 of the 6 got out of the dungeon, and the second time I think 1 character did, if I'm remembering correctly. It's very intentionally Tomb of Horrors-esque in that it's more about the experience than the victory, and that only really smart players (with a...

    SNL - D&D skit

But for some unexplainable reason, d12s are just inherently funnier. Just ask Strong Bad: http://www.homestarrunner.com/tgs8.html (you have to wait until almost the end) In comedy writing, accuracy isn't important. In fact, it's ultimately a bit funnier to get it wrong. But the point is to...

Call of Cthulhu d20 Preservation Society

Actually, FWIW, as far as the non-system stuff goes, John wrote the Mythos chapter (probably the best chapter in the book) and some of the Gamermaster chapter, as well as the End of Paradise scenario. Ken Hite, Scott Glancy, and I worked on the Gamermaster, Stories and Settings chapter (I no...

Call of Cthulhu d20 Preservation Society

You're forgetting to add that standard CoC characters gain lost Sanity back by defeating Mythos creatures, which is what the Sanity regained per level mechanism mimics.

    Arcana Evolved is Coming!

I should add two quick things: 1. Those looking for an extended preview of the changes might be interested to pick up the Dragons' Return, an anthology of short stories set in the world of the Diamond Throne, by authors such as Kristine Katheryn Rusch, Ed Greenwood, Jeff Grubb, Bruce Cordell...

    Arcana Evolved is Coming!

Arcana Evolved will be available at the end of this month in both print and pdf form. This 432 page, full color rulebook incorporates everything that was in Arcana Unearthed and the Diamond Throne, and much of what was in the Player's Guide to AU (packaged with the screen), along with lots of...

    An Imprint: What is it?

Not exactly. Look at this way. Say Malhavoc Press wanted to come out with a line of non-d20 rpg products aimed at very young kids. Malhavoc has done a decent job of positioning itself in the market as a producer of d20 material aimed at advanced players, so if we'd be fighting against consumer...

    16 plastic D&D figures @ $2.50

From my memory of the Dragonstrike game, the axemen are supposed to be bugbears and the swordsmen are goblins (but are unspecific enough that you could use them for whatever you wanted).

    16 plastic D&D figures @ $2.50

So it's interesting that they actually ARE D&D figures. Those are from the old Dragonstrike game. They're not bad, but not great. Maybe worth 2.50. I wonder where they got them from, though. Presumably, they've got a bunch.
