D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

That's an excellent recap. My group knew there was a time limit before their patron died, but that didn't really speed them up at all. It didn't help that they got lost in the jungle a couple of times and one of those times they were lost for a couple of weeks. One of the characters in my game...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

No idea. I never worry too much about that sort of stuff. My players long ago realised that sometimes they will face overwhelming odds and just need to run away.

D&D 5E (2014) Light Emanating from an Invisible Character

If light is invisible then it can't be seen, therefore is not light at all. Therefore either the light can be seen so the source can also be seen, or the light can't be seen so unless you have darkvision or another source of light you are in the dark. I'd let the player decide which they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Official Adventures starting at level 5?

I started Tomb of Annihilation at 3rd level and that worked absolutely fine - I'd imagine that starting at 5th would be fine as well. No adjustments needed.

D&D General The first official D&D novel, a surprise

Any of the old fairy tales where people find themselves in other realms. Such as Tir Na Nog: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%ADr_na_n%C3%93g

Session 39, Day 118 - Too many devils. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7769291/day-118-8am-10am-so-many-devils This was pretty tough. I think if they had not detected the block trap in the ceiling they would probably be toast by now. Good fun though.

D&D 5E (2014) What type of D&D sourcebooks do you miss from older editions?

Definitely the massive spell compendiums and magic item compendiums. A real opportunity for odd magic items and obscure spellcaster specialisations.

D&D General Best and Worst Editions- For Adventures.

5e - especially now. As the edition has matured the adventures have gotten better. Tomb of Annihilation is outstanding (imo). 2e - Had the best and the worst. Definitely the most creative period 1e - (including BECMI) - some definite good stuff there, but mostly very dungeon crawly 3e - High...

D&D General Bad D&D jokes needed

We are currently playing through the Tomb of Annihilation, and one of the characters has picked up a floating skeleton called Yakka who constantly spouts bad jokes. Constantly. The problem is, I'm tapped out of skull and skeleton themed jokes. Anyone know any terrible jokes that would be...

I recommend Roll20. If you want to have a look at it, send me a private message with your e-mail address. I'll send you an invite into my game so you can have a looksee before you pay for the module. Alternatively you can use the free version and upload the maps yourself.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

I think the difference they have made to each of the levels helps quite a lot, so make sure you really play that up.

It's good fun, depending on which god. Obolaka is fairly lame.

Session 38: Day 118 - Gears of Hate https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7732127/day-118-5am-8am-gears-of-hate I think that we are getting very close to the end now. There are maybe 6 more sessions in this. That's good. I feel that if there was any more wandering in the tomb it would start to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Overrated Wizard Spells

Yeeep. I had misread the spell. I thought I was getting 5d12 each round. I take it all back then, that spell is overrated.

    D&D 5E (2014) Overrated Wizard Spells

1st level witch bolt has always seemed a bit meh, but cast at 5th level it can be stunningly good (if it hits).

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Here's the latest journal. It's very brief and ill-remembered as I've had a lot of big drama in real life (a near death) while managing a large project that went public last week. Not the most exiting episode, but the group really enjoyed it. Link to Journal: Roll20

D&D General Has online play changed your DM style?

Yes, absolutely. I no longer spend huge amounts of time drawing shoddy imitations of maps on dry-erase boards. I now have beautiful maps that are revealed as I need and each player can only see what their character would see. Other than that, all my changes in style are related to becoming a...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

These things happen. As long as you tell the players you stuffed up and that you'll play it by the rules from now on, then it won't matter. If you let them keep on doing it then it might break the game.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

It can be awkward as the characters can suddenly bounce from one place to somewhere quite far away and some of those puzzles are difficult to hold in your head as a DM. However I'm managing it OK when they do go somewhere unexpected although I may go off script a little from time to time. The...
