D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Maybe find a way to isolate it. Possibly have the other yuan-ti terrified of it, or have it in a battle pit as the champion yuan-ti. They get to leave if they defeat the champion.

You have to use it. Maybe a dream battle? Depends how powerful it is.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Here is this weeks journal entry. The first words of the session were 'roll initiative' and by the end of the session the same rolling battle had not ended. The group feel very sure that this will be a TPK, so much so that they are all rolling backup characters for the next session. Little do...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

I like it. I haven't used the Companion to Chult, but I am planning on using prophetic dreams next session after they breathe the incense filled air of the fane of the night serpent.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Here's the latest journal entry for my campaign: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7388463/days-113-114-into-the-fane-of-the-night-serpent I had an airship crash into the city, purely as a supply for new characters if any of the characters die in the near future. Things seem to be getting more...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Here's a wee side adventure that explains where one of the characters has been for the last month and a bit. One of our players has come back to New Zealand after six months in Japan so is keen to get gaming again with the same character...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

In part two of the encounter he did that. Teleported in, bit and grappled someone, and then teleported out - with the victim still in his jaws. None of the characters in my game are bags of hit-points, so the character in the jaws only had 1 hp left. The only reason he survived is because I kept...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

The only people killed were NPCs. There were the two tibaxi, and then there were two of the thugs that had been hanging out with the red wizards - I had named them, but they still just had basic thug stats. They made good cannon fodder, but that's mainly because the player semi-controlling them...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

On day 112 of the campaign the group encountered THE KING OF FEATHERS. https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/forum/3041203/ The only adjustment I made to the creatures stats was to change the misty step to a teleport. It scared the snot out of the group who promptly saw 4 NPC's get torn apart. Most...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Nice. I'll use that. I was going to make him teleport as a bonus action so that when he first sees them he will teleport behind them and attack from the back. I'll also play him as highly intelligent (but still savage), so he will recognise the weakest characters and make use of opportunities...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Here is the latest journal entry. I only had two players turn up, so I ended up running 4 NPCs as well as the monsters. Eeep. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7354713/day-112-red-wizard-kobolds-and-finding-a-friend

Mine were level 5 when they entered and they were a little weak. They survived, but really had to think through it all. An insta-death made them realise that they weren't in Kansas anymore.

Best Modern D&D Adventures- Top 10.

Your list has my favourites in there - except for one: The Red Hand of Doom. This was (for me) the best 3rd edition adventure without a doubt, and the only adventure I have seen that has handled war well from a character perspective.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Hmm, that is a quandry. I wouldn't have them rescued by Zagmira as that will mean you'll probably avoid much of the palace fun later, but possibly have an unlikely rescue by the red wizards (who want their cubes), or maybe even a horde of vegepygmies who simply hate snakes but don't even care...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

This is really enjoyable at the moment. I think you do need to keep all the different factions involved and interrupting the main quest. Otherwise it would be a dungeon-slog. All the different players really break it up and give the opportunity for things to really be influenced by the players.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

No new post this week, but I did update the journal from the last post. It was a good game, but not that interesting to read. They went to two shrines, solved the puzzles, defeated the enemies and retrieved the puzzle cubes. Also, I have a cold so I couldn't be bothered writing in detail. Bluk.

Chronomancers, time spheres, grand conjunction, sundering and uchronies.

If you are the DM you can do what you want. An old campaign of mine did the multiple-timeline approach, but the players went in thinking time couldn't be changed. They were horribly surprised when an action of theirs led directly to the deaths of their younger characters (before they had been...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation campaign recaps

Here's the latest journal entry, made up of two gaming sessions (because writing journals is hard to keep up with): https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7254697/days-109-110-red-wizards-shrines-and-a-bag-of-nails They did pretty well, but now are worried that they are just one of three different...

How often do you use the Inspiration rules?

I give it out all the time. You use an alternative that you can get on Roll20 - a deck of cards where inspiration gives you advantage OR a different benefit. This is standard and I give it out quite a lot. I'd give it more, but my players tend to save it for tricky situations. Where a character...
