    Water Domain, Work in Progress

I'm working on a water domain for my homebrew setting, and I was hoping to get some opinions about the following features, but most especially on the Channel Divinity feature. I was designing the Channel Divinity: Drown feature for the 2nd level domain spot, but it feels like it's powerful...

    Willful Disadvantage

Please don't try to tell me what's appropriate at my table.

    Willful Disadvantage

"Poor liar" sounds like a perfectly acceptable character flaw to me. I'd allow it. I would offer the player a compensating advantage, but if they really didn't want to take one I wouldn't force one on them.

    Advice: Overpowered Abilities

I've been in that situation before. The way I see it, there are only a few options: 1) Modify the spell. Make it less powerful, make it cost a higher level spell slot, make it require a material component and then you carefully control the distribution of said component. 2) Remove the spell...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else finding character advancement pretty dull?

Character advancement has always bored me. Sure, it's cool to get new things you can do, and some people get a thrill of anticipation between acquiring abilities and using them in play, but the fun for me comes in actually doing those things and playing the game.

Mixing and matching subclass Features as your character increases in level.

I allow that at my table. I haven't had any players who wanted to do it yet, but I do allow it.

A player wants a Large character...

Generally, there are some disadvantages to being large. 1) Armor costs more because it takes more material and more time to make it. 2) Large characters are likely to be seen as bigger threats because of their size (regardless of whether they're more dangerous than their smaller party-mates)...

Centaurs - Seeking your thoughts on a homebrew race

So far, I only have this penalty for them: "Equine Body. If you allow it, a medium, or smaller, size creature can ride you like a horse. If you allow yourself to be ridden, you continue to act independently of your rider. Additionally, your horse body may render certain tasks more difficult...

    Advantage vs. bonus?

It depends. Why are members of that race good at that thing? If they're good at it because their culture expects them to be skilled at it, and they put in the time and effort to train in it, then I'd go with proficiency (and I'd probably give them expertise with that skill if they get training...

Centaurs - Seeking your thoughts on a homebrew race

Thanks for the link, but I'm okay with my centaurs having lore different from the typical D&D lore. My setting has certain built-in tensions, one of the big ones is a tension between the immortal races who were created by the gods, and the mortal races (i.e. humans and goblins) who were...

Centaurs - Seeking your thoughts on a homebrew race

That's a good question. The centuars in my setting are semi-nomadic tribes-people. So, I don't imagine them wearing much plate. They gravitate more towards the barbarian class. However, when they do wear armor, it's partly normal armor for the humanoid torso and partly barding for the lower...

What is your reaction to the Ravnica news?

I'm both disappointed and excited. Ravnica is my favorite MtG block. I love the Orzhov, the Golgari and the Dimir. However, I haven't seen a lot in the Planeshift PDFs that's really appealed to me. So, as is so often the case, it comes down to execution. This means I have muted excitement...

Centaurs - Seeking your thoughts on a homebrew race

I'm working on the centaur race for my homebrew setting. This is what I have for racial features so far. Any thoughts, concerns or constructive criticisms are welcome. Asa centaur, you have the following traits: Ability Score Increase. Your Strength, Constitution and Wisdom scores...

Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

That's definitely better than not having that kind of replayability. But, it remains less useful to me than separate adventures. Separate adventures would have separate maps, which is a big part of the benefit I get out of adventures.

Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

That's a bit less useful to me than a book with separate adventures would be. However, thank you for letting me know about that. I appreciate the additional info.

Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

I agree that material for better running city-based adventures would give the book more value to homebrew DMs. I hope that section of the book is very robust.

Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

Ah. That would be why I'd never heard of it. I don't view the streams and I don't subscribe to Dragon+. If it's not in the product info, put forth here on EnWorld, or mentioned in a YouTube video I won't be aware of it. Although that does raise the question of why it's not in the product...

Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

I neither run nor like FR. For me, and probably for other homebrew setting DMs, the book IS just an adventure book. If it's done well, there might be a handful of elements apart from the adventure that can give me inspiration for my own creations, but I can't expect that to be present before...
