I also say obsidian portal is the place to go. They have some really great-organized DMs that make their world available to everyone. I myself have my own 2nd ed forgotten realms campaign up, although we haven't played in about 2 years.

I usually play the soundtracks to baldurs gate 1 & 2, icewind dale. The advanced dungeons & dragons soundtrack, diablo 1, 2 & now 3. I also throw in the DDO soundtrack as we the soundtrack from Castlevania:LOS. Mic it all together with some maiden and you got a great night of gaming music.

I have no problem buying into the beta as long as when I buy at beta status I get the final product when its released for free. If it follows other beta formats and my opinion and thoughts actually contribute to the final product then great, but if not then I'd wait for inal release of it...

Personally I love rolling lots of dice. It adds a level of epicness sometimes to get the hit an then be able to literary roll a handful of dice.

The pc game arcanum has lots of steam punk in it mixed with fantasy.

Make lots of characters and use them as NPCs. Keep you characters tasked with some sort of mission and let them do what they want.
