    Let's Talk About Darkvision

That is, without a doubt, the most brilliant metaphor for darkvision I have heard! Thank you very much for putting it in this light (pun intended). :) - Ed

    Let's Talk About Darkvision

I am not following your argument. Echolocation is not all a part of darkvision. It allows a person to see in the dark as if the area were illuminated. The only difference is that the person sees in black and white. Given that, why could not a person using darkvision see BLACK ink on WHITE paper?

    Let's Talk About Darkvision

Why couldn't a person with darkvision see black ink on white paper (no color)? Darkvision allows one to see anything that is able to be seen in normal light (except that what you see is in black and white). For that matter, can one see shades of grey with darkvision?

    Let's Talk About Darkvision

I am exploring the possibilities of all that darkvision allows in a campaign where I play a tiefling. Darkvision as officially written says this: <<Darkvision is the extraordinary ability to see with no light source at all, out to a range specified for the creature. Darkvision is black and...

    "Planar Handbook" - completlely useless?

The Planar Handbook appears to have been poorly concepted and thus has now become a missed opportunity on many fronts. The decision to create new races was misguided. Not only do these new races fail to capture the mystery and wonder of the planes but they just don't make sense from this...

Why is Eberron being pushed so hard?

I am an old gamer too but I don't really notice any difference between the way Eberron is being marketed and the way past worlds published by TSR were marketed. There's been the usual flurry of articles in Dragon and Dungeon (that seem about right when compared to the other closed worlds). As...

    2005 January-April Wizards products

I would not be so hasty as to buy into that assumption - and for good reason. :) As one half of the team who wrote Ancient Empires, I know that many lost realms and forgotten kingdoms throughout Faerun are covered - including those that once occupied the lands in and around the Heartlands. ;)...

Pick the art that defines Eberron!

I am harking back to the days of yore and how a new artist, new direction or design really defined a setting in your mind. The cover art of the Planescape and Dark Sun boxset come most to mind. Now we have Eberron. There's the Eberron Campaign Setting and one published adventure. Pick out two...

    What's your definition of pulp?

So this word "pulp" is being tossed around quite a lot lately. In gaming terms, what does it mean to you? (and I ain't talking about Tropicana Grovestand vs. Pure Premium orange juice) ;) In general, I see "pulp" as the mood created when a character with strong personal ties to a particular...

Planar Hanbook excerpt and art gallery

Does anyone know what (if any) player character races complete we'll see in the Planar Handbook? Will this book reclaim planetouched aasimar, tieflings and genasi for the planes? Will we see previously published planetouched races from the MM2 (i.e. chaond) and the FF (i.e. shyft) in all their...

    [Psionics] Full support?

Personally, I found the amount of psionics in Eberron just perfect (this from a huge Dark Sun fan). With psionics off in the shadows (i.e. away from Khorvaire), its remoteness and its use by offworlder types lends a "dark air of mystery" feel to the whole mind-art on Eberron. In other words, its...

    Why didn't Eberron click?

I echo this sentiment exactly. I also expected the same treatment of Eberron and it was my main motivation for getting the book. There is no doubt that Eberron is a well-done setting and an excellent place to adventure on many fronts but I really, really, really wanted tie-ins and direct links...

About to start Darksun - What have been your experiences with it?

Great game! Absolutely one of the best campaigns I ever ran. 3e offers a new set of directions to take Dark Sun in. Here are a few I have thought of should I ever decide to run one. > Magic-Psionic Transparency - The direction of 3e has been to make psionics the 3rd form of magic. This was not...

Anyone in US have Eberron yet?

Hey Y'all in the US! Anyone able to purchase/take home Eberron yet? If so, where'd you get it (state, city, etc.)? Please pass on by this thread if you don't plan on buying Eberron, haven't bought it, are in the process of deciding. I'm only interested in tracking Eberron's initial spread...

    Best use of silent/minor/major image

A mischievious illusionist I played used to do the following. BTW, I find all illusions work better when using the Still Spell, Silent Spell and Eschew Material feats. The lack of sound with Silent Image can often be offset if the caster creates his illusions in noisy areas (bustling city, noisy...
