Is it possible that 2nd edition could make a very popular come back?

In the words of Ricky Bobby (and Reese Bobby, before him) "If you ain't first, you're last."

Meaning of Vikings Campaign Sourcebook name?

Here's what I found... fjötra appears to be an icelandic word meaning to fetter or shackle. Edit: found it at dictionary.sensagent.com

    Defeating blindsight...

In Lords of Madness (3.5) there is a feat called Dark Stalker, which allows you to hide from creatures with various non-visual senses... Edit: ffs, thread necromancy. You have tricked me again.

D&D 5E (2014) Futzing With Experience Points (Exploration and Treasure for XP)

I've always been a big fan of using experience to incentivize the players to engage in the behaviors that you want to explore. This seems like a good way to do so for a hex-based game of exploration.

    The characters are the players

The few times that we've done this, we still used the normal stat generation method for whatever game we were playing.

    Reserve Feat - Dimensional Reach

I read that as, "Think of Hipstery's great tyrants."

    D&D 5E (2014) A whole group with Darkvision!

Every player in the group choosing a race that has darkvision may be an indication that the players do not want to deal with issues surrounding darkness and do not find gameplay focusing on issues of darkness to be fun or interesting. Your best bet it to talk to them to see if this is the case...

DMs, Do you allow your group(s) to play Evil PCs and/or parties, & why?

In games that I am running, the alignments of the player characters are typically something that the game group discusses as a whole. The game belongs to the other players as much as to the DM, so it is not really on the DM to "allow" the players anything. In games where I am a player, I...

Rules Transparency - How much do players need to know?

Ideally, the players have enough information (either from the rules or from the DM's description) to be able to estimate the chances of success of various tactics, so that they can make meaningful choices. Your player who wants his character to climb a tree probably needs to know (or to be able...

How many people do you know who haven't switched to 5e, and why haven't they?

Each of the three groups that I regularly play with has tried out 5e, but found it not to be as crunch heavy as our preferred style.

What made you stick with 3.x?

3.x is my favorite version of the game for long-term campaign play. I like (and include) Pathfinder stuff to supplement 3.x games that I run, but Pathfinder doesn't scratch that itch for me in the same way that 3.x does. So far, I've found 5e to be pretty good for pick up play, one shots, and...

D&D 5E (2014) How Many in your Group?

The game that I am currently running for has six players, plus a sub, who gets invited if anyone has to miss a session. This is pretty ideal for me for this game. Two other groups that I am playing in both have nine players, with usually no more than seven showing up for any given session. In...

    Pathfinder 1E Divine spell failure

Arcane spell failure applies only to arcane spells, not to divine spells. There is no written explanation for why this is, other than, 'them's the rules.' The explanation given by was is as good as any.

    Character Death

In the game that I'm currently running, I am keeping the characters all the same level. That means that character death and joining characters have no real effect on character level. I also use a house rule that limits the ability of characters to use magic items that are too powerful for their...

D&D 5E (2014) "Just Kill Them": Balancing PC survival and Monster Intelligence

The, "captured and placed into a silly death trap device" thing is a genre trope. If your players are not buying in to the genre tropes (i.e. if they are killing their enemies to the man without mercy), then you should not use them. This sort of goes along with the, "combat as sport" vs. "combat...

    Knowledge (Warfare) - Discussion?

I would allow the player to use it to attempt to predict what his opponents are going to do within the next few rounds. This doesn't grant any sort of numerical advantage, but having an idea of what the opponents are planning can help the player characters to make their own plans.

    The Caller and the Mapper

I sometimes use a caller (whoever is sitting next to me at the table gets the job) to wrangle player actions while I jot down notes or find some information from a previous session. This allows me to keep the game moving while I handle administrative tasks that the players probably don't care about.

    Fast Paced Game Options

I have done sort of the opposite of Saelorn, opening up magic item creation to all characters. This gives everyone something to do. I think that, assuming that your item creator doesn't make items just for himself, it shouldn't be too disruptive to shorten spell acquisition and item creation...
