    Compressing the Numbers

I did this with my own house-ruled version of Saga. The 1/2 level progression applies to Attacks, Skills, and Defenses. Skill Training grants +4 to trained skills. Skill Focus grants an additional +4. Weapon Proficiency grants +2 to attacks. Weapon Focus grants an additional +2. Great...

    STARTING FROM SCRATCH

That blows, dude. I had a similar experience several years ago when some youths broke into my house and made off with some computers. I still go looking around for files that were stored on there before realizing that they are gone forever. Something that may help you during your rewrites...

Is the Internet a hive of scum and villainy?

Just like on the forums, those comments sections usually have a "report post" button that you can use to report rude, derogatory, or bullying behavior. Whenever I watch a video on Youtube, I typically spend a few minutes going through the comments and reporting inappropriate posts. On the...

    Looking for a magic system

The magic system in GURPS and GURPS Magic has much of the stuff in your system requirements, either by default (skill system, not a build-a-spell, the possibility to specialize in magical colleges) or via rules presented as possible options (unlimited spellcasting, spending resources to improve...

D&D 5E (2014) What Books Would You Buy

I ended up purchasing quite a few of the Type IV D&D books (Draconomicon, Manual of the Planes, The Plane Below, The Plane Above, Underdark) in addition to the core three (and the second core 3) even though I played only a few sessions of the game before deciding that it wasn't for me. That is...

    Work dress codes

I work in a textbook distribution center. Recently they have loosened their dress code. Previously, it was business casual in the administrative offices and for supervisors and managers and a somewhat looser dress code for warehouse personnel (jeans yes, sweatpants and short shorts no. t-shirts...

    NPCs vs PCs

When I am creating NPCs, I generally put them into 4 categories, as follows... Non-Heroic NPCs - These are your average peasants, soldiers, experts, and so on. They typically get a lesser attribute array (I generally give these guys a total +1 attribute bonus) and have sparse equipment (clothes...

DM Dilemma: Munchkins are getting out of hand... and I let it happen.

Another option that you might try is just not running the combats at all. Run the game as normal. But when a combat ensues, just tell the players that they beat whoever it is that they are combating and go on with the game. On the plus side, you will probably get through a whole lot more of...

Homebrew feat to increase spell slots for Uncanny Forethought

Uncanny Forethought is ridiculously strong as it is. This feat is way too strong. It might be okay as an Epic feat, but still seems somewhat strong in that context.

D&D 5E (2014) 30 speed for all! Halflings, Gnomes, Dwarves were feeling left behind?

In games that i run, I give halflings (and orcs) a 40 foot speed. So for me, being smaller does not necessarily need to equate to being slower. But I feel like making all the player races the same speed results in a loss of diversity for no real gain. Anyway, it will be just as easy to adjust...

Should game designers remain neutral when designing D&D?

Ideally, game designers would be familiar with and enjoy a wide variety of play styles, and work towards creating a game that supports as many of those as possible (when trying to make a game meant to have a wide appeal, such as D&D). If you don't like a whole lot of flavors, you should not be...

Pathfinder 1E I have been asked to try this again

No reason except that the guy running the game has chosen to run Pathfinder instead.

Pathfinder 1E I have been asked to try this again

Those house-rules sound fine. The rules of the game are more or less inconsequential. Does the premise for the campaign sound fun and do you enjoy the company of the people you would be playing with?

My pride in my country is no longer there

There also is a pretty large trend of flavored vodkas, which my wife and her friends seem to love.

Do you find it hard to find games?

I am currently playing with three active groups. So I would have to say that no, I don't find it hard to find games.

    Quantifiable, non-XP, role-playing rewards

That's true. Another thing that you might consider, is using an action point system similar to that in the XCrawl game, where points are awarded into a pool that can be spent by any of the players to benefit someone else's character.

    Quantifiable, non-XP, role-playing rewards

You can also give them longer lasting mechanical bonuses, too. Increased maximum hit points, spell-like abilities, increased ability scores, and so on.

    D&D 3.x problem spells in 3.5

The only spells that I've really seen as an issue in the games that I've run have been lesser celerity, celerity, and greater celerity. These three spells combine elements of two things that are often seen as an issue for 3.5. The action economy, and the incredible versatility of spellcasters...

What are your D&D plans for 2014?

Right now, I am gearing up to run a Spelljammer campaign that I am going to run in Type III D&D, and that I may transition to Type V D&D shortly after it comes out. I am also currently playing in an epic level Type III game that is, sadly, coming to a close. I don't think that DM has any plans...

Analyze this combat system element: the action framework

Yes, absolutely. Characters should be able to defend others in the same row with a small penalty (-4 should be fine, depending on your bell curve, or lack thereof). Characters in the front row should be able to defend characters in the back row with no penalty.
