That blows, dude. I had a similar experience several years ago when some youths broke into my house and made off with some computers. I still go looking around for files that were stored on there before realizing that they are gone forever.
Something that may help you during your rewrites is... When you are thinking about or trying to recall information that you want to recover, don't try just to remember whatever it was that you wrote down, recall specific situations in play (or that you intended for play). The somewhat more visceral connection to (imagined) events that happened will help you to recall more details than will just attempting to recall the pure information.
