    Epic Levels; D&D's Other Beast

I've been doing quite a bit of play in the 21-30 level range of D&D 3.5 lately, and we've done a few things to even out play. 1. We're using a variant epic spell system developed based on discussions by Sepulchrave and Cheiromancer (among others) that arose from the epic game that Sepulchrave's...

Magic 8-Ball, when will I game again?

It looks to me that you may need to find (or put together) a new group. You should start by having a candid discussion about the situation with your current group. If possibly, try to get something going with those who will commit to some firm gaming dates. Otherwise, get yourself a new group...

    Can the GM cheat?

Some players prefer not to have the dice or encounters altered. Those players generally consider such activity by DMs to be cheating.

    My Minimalist D&D

Using the 'roll under' mechanic, you should really stick to 'lower is better'. Bonuses and penalties can apply to the Ability score, making the check easier or harder in a more intuitive way, and degrees of success can be determined by how far under the (modified) ability score the check falls...

    Pathfinder 1E Keeping it simple

Two areas where you can really cut complexity are feats and spells. Each feat and each spell is its own separate, tiny rule. Reducing the number of feats and spells, or cutting them entirely, will drastically reduce the amount of rules that you and your players have to keep track of. Another...

    All flesh must be eaten

Using the pregens presented in the book has been what we did for our AFMBE game. We went a step further, and randomly determined who would be playing which character, which has led to some interesting roleplaying opportunities, as people get to play characters that they would not normally choose.

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Player's Guide?

The Pathfinder stuff is all OGC, you could try making your own... C&P it from the Paizo SRD into a nice-looking document and take it to a copy shop to print a few copies.

The Pathfinder edition of Dusk is now available.

So its intended use is meant to be cooperative, that's cool. And the 2X to caster level is another way to make the difference that I mentioned earlier. It seems like a powerful spell, but I'm not necessarily against that.

Do your PCs have a designated leader?

This has been more or less my experience, as well. In some campaigns, a leader will naturally emerge, as decisions get deferred to certain people, sometimes by way of their skill set or strength of personality. I have had a couple of campaigns where a leader was deliberately determined. In one...

The Pathfinder edition of Dusk is now available.

You might want the spell level increase to be somewhat lower than the caster level increase, maybe X/2. In general, it seems like the spell level should be harder to increase than the caster level.

Pathfinder 1E Your Pathfinder campaigns - running Adventure Paths, published adventures, or homebrew?

The games that I am running right now are not purely Pathfinder, but they have a lot of Pathfindery elements (I use Pathfinder classes, feats, and Combat maneuvers in a mostly D&D 3x game). Similarly, I am running a lot of the encounters out of Pathfinder Gamemastery Modules and Adventure...

Armor Class vs. Damage Reduction - Your preference

I am ok with either type of implementation. When using armor as DR though, I like for both armor and damage to be random, rather than one being random and the other static.

    Stubborn

My groups tend towards D&D, but don't really object when the guy who's going to be running next says, "I'll be running [Game X]. We'll do character generation during the next session and get into the game on the following one."

Tell us about your favourite space RPG and why?

Not necessarily... When I long-ago used the d6 Starwars game, we were really playing in a generic space opera setting somewhat inspired by the Star Wars movie trilogy. More Recently, I've used (a somewhat modified) Star Wars Saga to run a game inspired by the Firefly tv show, a game very...

    Spreading Rumors

In my homebrew game, I have a Networking skill that can be used for (among other things) changing one persons or groups attitude towards another person or group. The mechanic is essentially the same as that used for Diplomacy, with time based on the size of the target group and difficulty based...

    Institutional memory or accountant

I tend to be the person who remembers all of the important events and characters in the groups that I play in. Of course, I am terrible with names, so sometimes it can take a while to figure out which NPC I'm talking about. I've never been too fussed about equipment that other people are...
