    D&D 5E (2014) 8th level Paladin Warlock questions

You can also get the extra attack with Paladin 3 / Warlock 5; the Thirsting Blade invocation is available at that level. However, once you've got the extra attack from the Paladin class, you can save that invocation slot when you reach Warlock 5, so that's good too.

D&D 5E (2014) Is Savage Attacker worth it?

OK, I'm out. There's no point debating with someone who plays a game with dice and insists that probability distributions are "meaningless."

    D&D 5E (2014) Another Warlock Thread

Sorcerer / Warlock synergy is excellent. I'm looking at the Favored Soul option, thinking a few levels of that would be awesome for a Blade-pact warlock. Medium Armor is an excellent feature, as is gaining an extra attack without using an invocation. Several good lists of bonus spells too...

    D&D 5E (2014) 8th level Paladin Warlock questions

I've pretty much got my mind set on 1) getting Pact of the Blade, and 2) getting Oath of the Ancients. So both classes will have a minimum level of 3. However, I agree that 6th Paladin level is awesome. It'll probably be the first level-up I take after I begin playing this character.

D&D 5E (2014) Pact of the Blade / Bladelock, looking for thoughts

I think I'm missing an Invocation! Which one is that? Also, the Polearm Master feat is a good "equalizer" for STR/CHA BladeLocks. At 5th level, you've got 3 attacks per round, and your STR adds to damage on the bonus action attack. (it's official) Plus, you can get another attack on your...

D&D 5E (2014) Pact of the Blade / Bladelock, looking for thoughts

Well, Pact of the Blade effectively grants proficiency with Martial melee weapons, and you get a magical weapon too, which may take any form you chose, and cannot be stolen. (If that happens, you just summon it back.) Are you not impressed?

D&D 5E (2014) Pact of the Blade / Bladelock, looking for thoughts

The issue is which ability score the Warlock gets to use for attacks/damage when wielding the pact blade. Changing it to CHA would reduce dependency on other ability scores (STR/DEX), and make the subclass more viable overall. My position is that this is big enough benefit that it shouldn't be...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Savage Attacker worth it?

Actual battles against real monsters? FrogReaver, what game are you playing? (And where can I avoid it?) As far as I know, in the tabletop version of D&D (none of those "real monsters" for me, thank you) a higher distribution on the damage dice means the bad guys fall down sooner. That's a...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Savage Attacker worth it?

Actually, "the whole story" would be looking at the entire distribution of rolls, both with and without the Savage Attacker feat. If you're using this feat, the average goes up slightly, the odds of getting max damage increases, and the odds of rolling minimum damage is reduced a great deal, but...

D&D 5E (2014) Pact of the Blade / Bladelock, looking for thoughts

It's worth noting that Druids require a cantrip (Shillelagh) to gain an ability equivalent to this. And TomeLocks can borrow this ability, but it still requires taking the Druid cantrip. I think it's a great idea for BladeLocks, and it won't break the game, but (IMHO) it probably should require...

I see what you mean, there.

D&D 5E (2014) Is Savage Attacker worth it?

I don't know about anyone else, but after reading this thread, I'm convinced Savage Attacker isn't worth a feat slot.

    D&D 5E (2014) Things that "need" errata

Needed errata: PHB p34, Draconic Ancestry table lists both Dex and Con saves for breath weapon in column 1, Breath Weapon text says breath weapon always uses Con save. Discrepancy between table & text should be resolved in future printings. PHB p131, Folk Hero Defining Event table, entry...

    D&D 5E (2014) Things that "need" errata

Something needs to be done about the Crossbow Expert feat. A feat for crossbow users is fine; crossbows users need some feat support to be effective in combat. But the extra benefit removing disadvantage on "ranged attack rolls" within 5 feet is causing all kinds of confusion! It's worded...

    D&D 5E (2014) 8th level Paladin Warlock questions

I'm creating a new 8th level character: a multiclassed Paladin (Oath of the Ancients) / Warlock (Fey/Blade Pact), and have a couple of questions about how to build this best. 1) What combination of levels? There are pros and cons for each of these: Paladin 5 / Warlock 3 (Most spell slots, if...

    D&D 5E (2014) How fun are warlocks?

My advice is not to get too obsessed with all the optimizers telling you what you "have to do" with a warlock character. There's more than one way to make the class work. If you don't want to get stuck spamming Eldritch Blast all the time, take the Blade Pact and grab some spells/invocations...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons and Dragons and the RPG Stigma

I've run into a few video gamers who made their disdain for tabletop gaming (of any sort) obvious. It was anti-intellectualism, 21st century style; computer and video games were fast-paced, interesting and exciting, while tabletop games (in their view) were dull and boring due to the fact that...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

I went with Archfey, which also has good "extras" on its spell list. I got Blink at 5th level, and I just got Greater Invisibility at 7th. Gonna make LOTS of attacks with advantage using that one. Archfey gives Fiendish some competition for best Blade Pact Warlock. Another note: I've found...
