    Mixing Races....and why DM's shouldn't allow it

They got some cool mini's that is for sure, even though most of the races are not found as such in Egyptian mythology.

    Mixing Races....and why DM's shouldn't allow it

 good one. Odd that. The Egyptians were critized by the Greeks for their zoodolatry yet the Egyptians didn't have much, if any, half-human half beast creatures running about in their mythology that were not gods. The Greeks who prided themselves on their human shaped gods (unless they...

    Looting and the State

Actually, the King laying claim to treasure hoards found within the boarders of the Kingdom was the norm, i.e., it is the common law and still is. Look up the common law on lost items, abandoned items and treasure. Those Roman coins would have belonged to the King in the Dark Ages. Taxes and...

How Much of a Railroader Are You?

That's the ticket. I have precious little time to prepare so instead of throwing out 8 plot hooks which they may ignore, I ask what kind of adventures interest them and work up 2 or 3 things along those lines that fit in the campaign.

How Long (in game) do your dungeon crawls last?

These things can be cool if you are palyers are into it. For us arrows have become a very precious commodity. More excitment was generated two sessions ago over finding a quiver of steel tipped crossbow bolts than 1000's of gp. The 2,000 gp and a few gems gets a yeah more gold, the 20 bolts a...

How Long (in game) do your dungeon crawls last?

So far 8 days in The Caverns of Thracia. Looks like only 1 or two more in game days to go at most. Normally they would camp outside but they have made alliance with creatures in the dungeon; so they actually rest inside at these creatures behest. The player's are also methodical mofo's and...

    Mixing Races....and why DM's shouldn't allow it

I think I'm with you on this one, but the 1/2 kobold, 1/2 hobbit seems to make some weird sort of sense, maybe one is a sub-species of the other. Personally, we allow human-elf and human-orc, that's it on the half breeds. Explained by normal genetics, so such half breeds are sterile...

    Failed Game?

Without the context of the quote it is a little hard to respond to the assertion of "failed games" and the negative connotations normally associated with the word. My metric would be sales. A product fails when it fails to recoup costs (developmental, manufacturing and marketing) and provide a...

    LOTR from a gamer's perspective

Well said. There is a constant thread through JRRT's work that points to limits on how directly the Valar and Maiar can use their power to intervene in the affairs of men, who are intimated as the only creatures with true souls. There is also a strong thread of free-will and that the lesser...

Party creation instead of character creation?

Always. For characters that are part of an organization, Druids, Clerics, Rangers, Paladins, etc. it is failry easy, you are adventuring with x because the organization has decided they would be helpful in advancing the organizations goals. Then add layer of familial / from the same town /...

    Flying On A Moving Ship?

You have it right except for this part. Ignoring wind that may be pushing the pixie around more than it can counter, if the ship does not accelerate once the pixie leaves the deck then the will not leave the pixie behind. The ship is at velocity v when the pixie leaves the deck. The pixie...

Aftermath RPG Boards - Now Open! (title edited 2-24-2007)

Agreed. Making former industrial areas a toxic place to live. IIRC in our campaign we marked off "toxic" areas, but since play began 150-200 years after the ruin toxins had some time to thin even if they did not degrade. PCBs anyone? That's it exactly! This may be part of the same thing...

Aftermath RPG Boards - Now Open! (title edited 2-24-2007)

Yes, yes and yes. :) I too imagine nature run amok, a little fallout goes a long way to making a wasteland or a place unihabitable by humans, but quite OK for plants, insects and lower animals. I like the idea of including global warming, if nothing else for rising coastlines and the image of...

    No Second Edition Love?

I agree, I think we are reinforcing each others arguments. D&D has features that make it a terrible simulator. RPGs that try (but will fail) to include all the variables are both poor simulator and often poor games. I agree on the difference between fighting in a controlled situation and not...

    Box Text

It's not too long as a introductory set piece, a good thing to read while the players get their dice and character sheets in order. Once the adventure starts flowing it's way too long. Assumptions about time of day are a good point, but If you assumed daytime that's probably the time all...

    No Second Edition Love?

  OK I've done that. Of course I never got initiative on the toughest guy I've ever assaulted (my old Hapkido instructor) unless he wanted me to, but on lesser foes (those a few belts above me) INITIATIVE WAS EVERYTHING. A good first blow to the head can stun and slow...

Aftermath RPG Boards - Now Open! (title edited 2-24-2007)

I like these ideas alot and would love to discuss them as they parallel the "collapse" scenario we used in our PA campaign. Perhaps "The Collapse" could be a sub-forum.

Aftermath RPG Boards - Now Open! (title edited 2-24-2007)

Yes. Love PA RPG and especially would like a discussion of the genre that includes something other than just TSR/d20. Had a great stint of PA RPGing in the 80's and would like to do some more again. So where is The Evil Empire? I forget, is that the US or USSR? :)

    Post Apocalyptic Gaming

I'd bookmark and visit often. Same here in PA RPG experiences. Good to see Aftermath mentioned, my favorite PA RPG after greatly simplyfiying the melee and primitive missile weapon rules. Still some of the best gun rules ever IMHO.
