Cost for NPC to cast a spell..

They don't stack but a higher inherent bonus will replace a lower inherent bonus, should one be obtained at some point.

Cost for NPC to cast a spell..

It's for a character at 9th level who's spent some of her 'weath per level' to get a +1 inherent bonus. Thanks so much for all the replies!

Cost for NPC to cast a spell..

I can't remember where the formula is and I can't find it quickly in the SRD... How much does it cost for an NPC to cast a spell (specifically the Wish spell)? Thanks so much.

    5' Step in Difficult Terrain

ironically, the best weapons for a Knight to use seem to be the Spiked Chain and the Dwom, as both thrteaten both 5' and 10' away. I'm not sure of any other weapons that do, but obviously, any of them would be good as well. Of course, all of those kinds of weapons are Exotic, requiring the...

Vow of Poverty and a 'party' Cure wand

Or, Lil Timmy can C) Use the Heal skill and stabalize Bob. And Lil Timmy has kept Bob alive and hasn't broken his VoP. Because, you know, there are other ways of preventing characters from dying other than using a magic item or spell.

How 'medium' is mithral full plate?

Especially with the MIC. The MIC spells it out very plainly that Mithril drops the category for *all* requriements, inculding proficiency. No ambiguity at all.

    I See...No I Don't (Vision Question)

By a literal reading of the rules, yes. Shadowy Illumination is brighter than complete darkness (or No Illumination).

How free are you with a Freedom of Movement Spell?

Well, as a human wearing plate mail, the 'normal' speed is 20' a round. Since FoM lets you 'move normally'... a human wearing plate mail would move at 20' a round.

Scroll use and caster level question

If the spell is on the duskblade's list, they can cast it from the scroll. But, if the duskblade can't cast the spell yet (because of not having access to 2nd level spells), a caster level check needs to be made. Which, of incidental note, is why wands are usually better in some cases. A...

    Using Spellcraft to ID Spells...

Actually, ThirdWizard has a point. It's more along the lines of American English versus British or Australian English between the two types of magic. Sure, I don't know all the British or Australian slang, but can still understand a sentence (or figure out what spell has been cast)...

How do you handle rolling for HP?

We go with Max HP at 1st and 2nd level, then 75% (rounded down) past that (so 3, 4, 6, 7, or 9 hp depending on hit die). Even with when our tactics are good, it doesn't stop PC fatalities. The straight up barbarian almost kicked it a couple times with his buckets of HP.

    invisibility vs. dispel magic

Well, to really take a literal reading, Dispel Magic doesn't force anyone to resist with a saving throw, it doesn't deal damage, it doesn't harm, nor does it hamper. A spell that doesn't harm but does hamper, for instance, would be entangle or web, which would cause an invisible caster to...

Did I imagine this? ("Spending" skill points)

Which would mean they could never increase a 'trained use only' skill unless they took it at 1st level?

How far can you see at night?

Well, maximum spot distances for encounters and such are presented in the "Stealth and Detection" section for each terrain type in the SRD. For a general guideline I'd go with 1/10th that amount at night (based on the phase of the moon and such - more for full moon, maybe less for new). That...

Ha! I've got Aces & Eights!

As has been said, each of the sections is pretty much self contained and can be used when/if needed. Nobody prospecting at the current time? No need for the prospecting section. Same with Cattle Ranching, Juries, and so on. And, as far as gun battles go, the Shot Clock System (tm) is very...

taking 10 - exactly what skills and skill uses are covered?

Except, it's not reflexive until there's a threat or distraction. If your party is walking by an ambush and the DM says "Everyone make a spot check", at that point, no combat is going on and there's no threat nor distraction. The party is just walking along. Take 10 if you wish. Once combat...

can you take 10 on a hide check?

Well, having someone look at (or for) you, is honestly, neither threatening nor distracting. While it may *result* in being threatened, such is not always the case. If you're a 10th level rogue who's trying to ambush a 1st level merchant who's got a lot of cash on him, he's no threat. You can...

taking 10 - exactly what skills and skill uses are covered?

Exactly. And, it's the same reason why guards (and PCs) can take 10 on listen and spot checks if they really wanted to.

taking 10 - exactly what skills and skill uses are covered?

Except that's not correct about the Take 10.
