Did you apply for the Dresden Accelerated playtest?

Applications closed already but I got a message about it a couple of weeks ago. (And I just noticed this forum.) I guess I signed up for e-mail alerts on news items from them or something. I think magic could be greatly accelerated. When we played the Dresden system that was often a point of...

    Atomic Robo Short Arc

Since ALAN is looking for four technologies and you have four players, I would tie each technology to a specific player so they can have some spotlight that session. Running with your bee idea, scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory have tried training bees to detect explosives. A...

Did you apply for the Dresden Accelerated playtest?

Did anyone else apply for the Dresden Accelerated playtest? I applied for my group and I'm eagerly waiting to hear a response!

Setting Dificulties in FAE (FATE Accelerated)

Thanks for the insight! My group always opens them up to whoever wants to (and can) use them. We'll probably stick with that but it's good to know the intended rule.

Advice for a Old West game system

I ran a Western using Fate Accelerated and it went swimmingly. It was perfect for the cinematic feel that I was aiming for.

Through the Breach - Wyrd Games?

I get to play in a Malifaux campaign too! My friend is moving and instead of ending his Through the Breach tabletop campaign, he's turning it into a PBEM. Since it'll be remote he's invited me to play too. I can't wait!

    Imperial Assault as pseudo-RPG

I played it for the first time last weekend and enjoyed it. The missions we played had objectives that had to be met within X rounds, so each turn we were constantly pushing forward at a very fast pace. The pacing works well for a board game but would be very rushed for a roleplaying game...

    Learning Druidic

Heh. I've long since ditched that profile and 3rd Edition and never actually played that character. But thanks for the thoughts and replies anyway!

D&D Movie/TV What would a good D&D movie be like?

I'm not against all CGI and that video makes many points that I agree with. I like how the video compared CGI to a tool in the filmmaker's toolbelt. It's a great tool for landscapes, brief special effects, and extra from far off shots. And I recognize it's an incredible feat of technology and...

D&D Movie/TV What would a good D&D movie be like?

I'd rather have animatronics and people in suits and makeup. To me CGI along side real people is often too noticeable and comes off like Mary Poppins or Pete's Dragon (e.g., Jar-Jar and Azog).

    A Good Solo DnD-ish Boardgame

CMoN just had a Kickstarter for a fantasy themed version of their Zombicide game (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/zombicide-black-plague). It can be played with one player but it will feel more like fantasy Left 4 Dead than your typical shambling D&D zombies.

    D&D 5E (2014) Character Options

My first character ever was a 2e Thief/Illusionist and I found it remarkably easy to make him work. (But decades later I learned that was primarily because the friend who showed me how to make a character had NO idea what the rules were for making dual class characters. Basically it was, "You...

Through the Breach - Wyrd Games?

Do you think it can be used as a generic system if you're not familiar with the Malifaux setting? Is the Malifaux setting an easy entry point or do you need to play the minis game?

Through the Breach - Wyrd Games?

I haven't played it but some of my friends are fans of it. The system sounds simple and unique but they were drawn to it because they play Malifaux and enjoy the setting. They air a podcast (that's on hiatus) and have discussed it on occasion, so maybe it's worth checking out...

New D&D Movie To Go Ahead - Produced By Lego Movie's Roy Lee

That's a fair point. I think you can look back at Blade and Iron Man as examples too. In my anecdotal experience non-nerds (and most nerds) had little to no knowledge of those characters but their movies were successes without having the new Marvel movie push behind them.

    D&D 5E (2014) citadel of the planes - thoughts?

That's a fantastic idea! The alignment changes and compulsions sound like great fodder for side quests and it should only take one (maybe two) incidents before the players are careful about where they long rest.

New D&D Movie To Go Ahead - Produced By Lego Movie's Roy Lee

Guardians of the Galaxy had the same hurdle and they did okay for themselves.

New D&D Movie To Go Ahead - Produced By Lego Movie's Roy Lee

I think so too. Emulate Marvel's production style and tactics and they'll have a hit with nerds and non-nerds.

[UPDATED AGAIN!] SOUTHLANDS HEROES - New Character Options for D&D From The Folks Who Made TYRANNY O

I just impulse bought it because it sounded interesting and it wasn't too pricey. It's not a horrible product but I don't recommend it because I don't think I'll use it or read it again. I was interested in some of the races (particularly the lizardmen, hiveless, and gnolls) and the alternate...
