D&D 4E Changing the Combat Parameters of 4th Edition

Rest and Recovery Rest and Recovery is different in 4th Edition vs. 5th Edition. Just comparing the values it is obviously a different game: Short Rest: 4th) 5 minutes; 5th) 1 hour - HP Recovery: 4th) Up to 100% of max HP (4 HS); 5th) Up to 100% of max HP (with some randomness involved) -...

D&D 4E Changing the Combat Parameters of 4th Edition

Monster and PC’s HP One of the first things I started to look at in my 4.5 conversion, trying to bring together the best of both 4th Edition and 5th Edition was to try to shorten the length of the 4th Edition combat encounter. I liked how the system played at low level, i.e. a 1st level...

D&D 4E Changing the Combat Parameters of 4th Edition

Having read read DM David’s blog and playing 4th Edition and doing some 4th Edition conversions from 3.5 edition I have to agree with some of his statements. “In D&D next, a party can role-play, explore, and finish a few fights in a 2-hour session. In 4E, not a chance. At most, players can drop...

    What are people homebrewing?

I do not see any chance of sharing the material under existing WotC rules. Would be nice if they opened up the 4th Edition license to create things for WotC in a similar way as for 5e, but I do not see that happening, so until then I just work on this with some other D&D 4th Edition friends.

    What are people homebrewing?

Ok, then I have done a little more. I have put all 4th Edition rituals into one compendium sorted by level, but then added some flavor text from 5e spell wording (where applicable) and renamed "classical" rituals into their old D&D wording. I have also added some psionic rituals (which I call...

    What are people homebrewing?

Would be happy to trade some of the work I have done on a 4th Edition Rituals Compendium in exchange for the other spells you have converted to the 4th edition ritual format. Are also now playing 4th Edition (or 4.5 as I call it) with bounded accuracy rules. Really fun as DM as you can mixa and...

Psionic Mantras (Rituals) for 4th Edition

As I have decided to keep on playing 4th Edition I have started focusing on adding the things I felt was missing in 4th Edition, and thereby creating my own 4.5 Edition. One of the areas I think was missed out on was 4th Edition rituals for Psionics - which I call mantras. Download my rules for...

D&D 4E Throwing ideas, seeing what sticks (and what stinks)

You are right about, book keeping. Never though about that consequence. Would be a hazzle on the DM side, i.e. not worth the effort.

D&D 4E Throwing ideas, seeing what sticks (and what stinks)

Well I have been tinkering with 4th Edition, introduced a lot of things from 5th Edition into the game (bounded accuracy for example). But in order to shorten the battles I have also reduced the HP to the 4th edition starting hp but then only add 75% of what you normally gets as you progress up...

D&D 4E Throwing ideas, seeing what sticks (and what stinks)

I got an idea the other day which I would like to get some feedback on. How would the 4th Edition game work if the HP pool was split into a physical damage pool and one life/psychic pool (radiant, necrotic and psychic damage). Maybe with a split of 3/4 vs. 1/4 or 2/3 vs. 1/3. Battles would go...

D&D 4E If 4e went in this direction...

I have put them all together in my 4th Edition Character Themes Compendium, and then I have combined some of them with the 5th edition character backgrounds concept into my own 4.5 Edition Character Backgrund Compendium. Quite happy with the result as it brings together the inspiration and...

    Power2ool has gone dark

Well I have a pdf version as well where the latest stuff gets added. Once its big enough I can send it to print. Printing is cheap these days. However, nothing beats the feeling of your own book in the bookshelf.

4th to 5th Edition Converters - What has been your experience?

I find the major difference is in how the adventures are written. In 5e there is much more details to every room, small discoveries you can make if you take the time. The 4th Edition adventures and the format that was introduced was very combat and encounter oriented with less focus on room...

    Power2ool has gone dark

I have actually gone in the opposite direction - full retro - and now put all my Campaign info into a compendium I printed on hardback at Lulu.com (only for private use). Then I have it on pdf to share with my players.

    D&D 4E Who's still playing 4E

The bounded accuracy changes I made was the following: 1. Bonuses for PCs goes up +1/4 levels, rather than +1/2 levels, this applies to attack, defenses and skills 2. Magic item bonuses are converted from +1 to +6, into +1 to +3 (i might still give out higher bonuses like +4 or +5, but then it...

4th to 5th Edition Converters - What has been your experience?

When I have done my 4.5 Edition conversion of 4th Edition monsters I have taken the opportunity to steal both from 5th Edition, Pathfinder, and 13th Age. What I have found so far is the following: 5th Edition: Monster descriptions are great. Those I use to replace the 4th Edition descriptions...
