    Good starting ruleset for a 9 yr-old?

Seconded, but I'd substitute the "new" basic set for the Moldvay set. The rules are suitably simplified, and if he likes it, it's a good springboard to the core books. However, since he ate up the basic rules books already and is somewhat familiar with 1e you might do better with Castles and...

Races of Eberron Cover Art and Petition

Interesting speculation. I hope that WotC really doesn't think that a buyer will look past the "Eberron" in big bold letters on the cover and see only the brown jacket. A DM or player that doesn't play Eberron is going to be disinclined to purchase product with "Eberron" in the title no matter...

How Quickly is C&C Catching on?

Interesting. One of the things that's really drawing me to C&C is the lack of PrCs. Maybe it's the old-school in me talking, but I've always felt that if I want to play a "deepwod sniper" or a "frenzied beserker" or some such I can accomplish 99% of my goal through developing a character...

How Quickly is C&C Catching on?

Saving throws are relegated to attribute checks (d20 + ability modifier + character level), with the type of save dependent on the attribute: Strength: Paralysis & constriction Dexterity: Breath Weapon & Traps Constitution: Disease, energy drain, poison, or breath weapon Intelligence...

The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun - your experiences?

I've it read it through repeatedly and love it, but never got a chance to run or play Forgotten Temple or its sister module Lost Caverns. I've been toying around with converting both to 3.5, but with the release of TLG's Castles and Crusades, I think that may be the way to go.

    Pocket Conan

According to Mongoose's web site, $21.95 - less than half the price of the Atlantean Edition. http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/detail.php?qsID=788&qsSeries=&PHPSESSID=774aad9afda6fb6bddffab586b0e995b

How Quickly is C&C Catching on?

I bought it originally because I was very interested in Castle Zagyg, and wanted the rules set behind the adventure. Now, after reading through it I want to run this RIGHT NOW, Zagyg not withstanding.

    Castles and Crusades: When?

Yep, that's what I'm doing. It's great that 1e converts to C&C so easily - the hardest part about converting monsters is determining whether or not they have mental or physical primes.

    Decipher's LotR RPG Supported Again!!

OGL is a personal preference, mainly. As as gamer I find it easier and more convienent to carry around one book than game X plus the D&D Player's Handbook. Also, there would be a tie associating the game with D&D , which wouldn't endear me to it. I'd be willing to bet a large percentage of...

    Decipher's LotR RPG Supported Again!!

Correct. Hence mine and Ineti's comments about a re-tooled OGL game being better for LotR than straight D&D.

    Castles and Crusades: When?

I saw it was offered on the TLG site, and ordered it right then and there, but was dissapointed to see that Monsters and Treasure and Yggsburgh weren't available for pre-order. :(

    Decipher's LotR RPG Supported Again!!

I don't think that d20 system mechanics would be "detrimental" to a Middle-Earth game (and I never said they would be), but "D&D" ported over to Tolkien's world woudn't capture the setting as well as a system designed or re-tooled to that world. For example, in Middle-Earth magic is subtle...

    Decipher's LotR RPG Supported Again!!

Agreed. There's enough material in the LotR trilogy and its appendices to run a very looong campaign. It should be noted that the license Decipher was offered only covered the Trilogy and its appendices - which was the same license offered to ICE. Decipher just isn't taking as many liberties...

    Longest Campaign

I ran a 2nd edition Forgotten Realms campaign from 1992 to 2000. When 3e came out we converted over and played using 3e until the campaign ended in January, 2004.

    Decipher's LotR RPG Supported Again!!

I agree, the timing could be better, but AFAIC, better late than never. CODA is a great system and deserves to be supported. True, Decipher is a TCG company first and foremost, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Of course, I can't see them being too patient with the...

    Decipher's LotR RPG Supported Again!!

Looks like the life of the Valar has been breathed into the game, but I'm very curious as to the disposition of the Trek RPG (since it's been confirmed Mongoose doesn't have the license). http://www.decipher.com/content/2005/01/010705lotrrpg2005.html

    Mongoose doing Star Trek d20?

True, but Decipher *is* a TCG company. They got the RPG license in a bundle with the TCG license, and rather than sit on it, they had Steve Long and Co. produce a great RPG system. When the RPG lines didn't produce the returns they were expecting (i.e. a TCG-like profit margin) they decided to...

    Mongoose doing Star Trek d20?

Rumor has it when WotC bought Last Unicorn Games, Paramount yanked the license from Hasbro because they specifically didn't want the Trek RPG to be using the same system as Star Wars. Seems a little much to me - I like to believe when the sale was final the license agreement was nullified.

    Mongoose doing Star Trek d20?

I'm willing take Matt at his word and believe it's a false rumor. Mongoose may have had designs on the Trek license and it fell through, or another of a million other reasons. HOWEVER, if it's not then I'd like to see Mongoose continue the game with Decipher's CODA system. CODA is similiar...
