That's similar to what i was thinking too. It kind of misses the point of Ravenloft to start play as a vampire PC. While it certainly can be done, it is not imho a good start for a new DM or new group delving into Ravenloft for the first time. Keep it simple and classic the first time round...

Another useful index to GH products is: Greyhawk Product Checklist Bastion of Faith is a strong canidate for the list imho, while the Guide to Hell is much more generic, although it contains details on the church of St. Cuthbert.

Freeport is certainly a port but it's also a pirate town on an island. Other d20 city supplements: Ptolus (it's huge and it's a port iirc) Five Fingers Ports of Deceit (also a pirate port but for Iron Kingdoms, so steam-punky) Castle Whiterock (town/city around a castle/dungein, Goodman games)...
