Which character generator is best-E-tools or PCgen?

Maybe this is asking for the works of Shakespeare in a 1 page summary, but can any knowledgable types out there help with the pros and cons of e-tools as it now stands and pcgen? Basically, I am looking for a reliable 3.5 character generator to simplify D&D character creation. Don't need other...

The Ghost Tower of Inverness - your experiences?

Brilliant 1st ed memories of this one. Lots of varied challenges, varied environments etc made this a blast. As a DM I remember having to tweak things down in power slightly, but no matter to that. Good, good, good.

What character generation method do you use?

This is what I prefer, too-think its called "organic characters" in the DMG. It tends to give slightly better scores overall, but you can't put every score where you want. Makes for some interesting characters such as a high strength sorceror or high int barbarian.

My Paladin killed a child molester (and now my DM wants to take away my powers!)

This is going to depend on how Paladins are portrayed in the campaign. Many people view Paladins as some kind of goody two shoes, but as someone has previously said, Tyr and others encourage their holy warriors to take responsibility and make the decision themselves-judge, jury and executioner...

    The nature of High/Low Magic

I think you are spot on with your observations. Its a little like reconciling castles with a world of high magic- what's the point of spending years and huge resources on a castle when people/monsters can fly over the walls, teleport in etc etc. Presumably, in a world where magic is prevalent...

An Open Letter to Dragon and Dungeon Readers

Nice one, Paizo guys. You listened to the feedback and it all sounds great. My subscription is definitely assured again (it was slightly in doubt after the "curate's egg" of the recent times with Dungeon). By the way, those guys (Neo earlier in these posts, I think) who think they can't get a...

There's arachnids in them thar forests.

Surely the spider thing comes from 2 roots. 1) They can be dangerous even if they are an inch in size (or less) 2) Every right thinking person hates the disgusting, bloated, abominations that are spiders, big or small :) (Well, that goes for all us arachnophobes, anyway, and its probably one...

    Are you a Pseudo-Gamer?

 LOL!!!!! The original post makes an interesting point. Back in the heyday of D&D before computer games and when Temple of Elemental Evil was just module T1 "The Village of Hommlet" and that was your lot (played with Basic red book rules at first in my case) this would never have been an...

Merged: Against all odds [Darmanicus] & Adv. Party Needs Killing (Inconsequential-AL)

Cool-thanks for the update, especially if you're in the middle of moving house! What's the score with the little girl who got kidnapped? Clawron doesn't sound like a Strahd Von Zarovich type so I presume he doesn't view her as another future concubine... Story houring it sounds like a winner...

Merged: Against all odds [Darmanicus] & Adv. Party Needs Killing (Inconsequential-AL)

So, any updates on what happened last night? (Assuming you played again)

    Familiars: are they worth it?

EXACTLY the way I have always ruled it. You get flavour for the character, utility from the class feature of having access to a familiar AND a risk if you use it dangerously/rashly or the plot justifies this, WITHOUT making it a foregone conclusion that it will eventually be toasted by a...

Merged: Against all odds [Darmanicus] & Adv. Party Needs Killing (Inconsequential-AL)

So how did you split them? Sounds to me like you could do with accomplishing this again if you have any more tricks up your sleeve-or a way of using their familiarity with your last trick to double bluff them (depending what you did, of course!) If the 2 of them almost took down your Paladin...

    Laptop Buying Advice

Personally, I only moved to a laptop last March due to space saving requirements with the birth of our second child. I needed a laptop that would do what a desktop did as regards games (the admin and surfing side are fine on almost any spec, anyway). After some research I went with Alienware...

Temple of Elemental Evil discussion thread (merged)

Don't get the disappearing attack countdown, myself. Then again, maybe I always move the mouse off the target. I'll have a go and see.

Anyone else having trouble with the ToEE patch?

I believe the "no-cd" fix was suggested because for some reason there is a security conflict between some setups and the TofEE CD access system. (I think that's the gist of it, anyway). One of the Troika Devs suggested it might help in a situation like yours but as with a lot of these buggy...

Anyone else having trouble with the ToEE patch?

Something else just occurred to me. There was some talk on the Atari forums about a "patch" file that didn't work. Apparently it was not actually a patch (although it said it was). Did you download the patch from the link at Atari's specific Temple of elemental evil section, under "patches and...

Anyone else having trouble with the ToEE patch?

That's a bit of a git- everything seems to be in order, but it just won't do it. The only other thing I can suggest is the Atari forums to see if anyone else has this problem.

Anyone else having trouble with the ToEE patch?

I had exactly this experience. Everything seems fine with me. Had to use the WINRAR program to extract the cof 8 patch so not sure if it worked, either. We can probably find out by seeing if cof8 mods still operate in our newly patched games. KENM, the only thing I can think of is either your...
