When that pach came out a couple of days ago, I downloaded it. When I tryed to install, I got a fatal error "invalid patch file" it said. I uninstalled patch, downloaded a couple of other times, from different places, got the same thing. I uninstalled the game deleted saved games, folders, ect., reinstalled it. Tryed the patch again, got same thing. Spent an hour on the phone with Atari tech support, they had me delete some temp files, still nothing. Anyone have any ideas? I had the Circle of eight patch on, but I uninstalled it before i even downloaded the patch first time.

You don't understand. I downloaded the patch, first from the offcal Atari support, when that did not work, I tryed from mirror sites. Whenever I tryed to install, I got a fatal error "invaliad patch file" is what it said. I click on patch properties, it says I got the whole patch, every time. But I keep on getting this error.

Heya:

I downloaded the patch last night from the official site (between 15 and 28kb/s, bleh) and had no problems with it at all. I'd suggest visiting the official forums and seeing if anything in the troubleshooting section helps.

Then I downloaded the 2.0 Co8 patch. I _think_ I installed it properly, but I'm not sure. I didn't use WinACE, I think, and I didn't set anything specific to maintain directory structures (or whatever), so I'm not sure if that part worked.

I gotta have the Co8 stuff, since I like NPCs, but don't like 'em stealing my stuff. ;)

Take care,
Dreeble

I downloaded the patch from the atari site last night and have so far encountered no problems.
The only thing I saw on the site that might apply is if you are running Win 98.
See Below.

[Note: This patch will NOT work properly for those users who are running the downloadable TryMedia version of the game in Windows 98. There will be a forthcoming patch available for these users in the future.]

Other than that I am at a loss on what could be wrong or how to fix it.
You might try Atari or Troika.

I had exactly this experience. Everything seems fine with me. Had to use the WINRAR program to extract the cof 8 patch so not sure if it worked, either. We can probably find out by seeing if cof8 mods still operate in our newly patched games.

KENM, the only thing I can think of is either your operating system (as has been mentioned) or maybe your characters still have Cof8 modded stuff in the saves without installing the new Cof8 patch (But that shouldn't affect your installation of the patch, just your attempt to play the game, AFAIK).

But after like the third time, I complety delete ToEE from my system, and my saved games, folders, ect.. Then I installed the game again, and when I tryed to install the patch, I got the same thing. I have WinXP.

That's a bit of a git- everything seems to be in order, but it just won't do it. The only other thing I can suggest is the Atari forums to see if anyone else has this problem.

Something else just occurred to me. There was some talk on the Atari forums about a "patch" file that didn't work. Apparently it was not actually a patch (although it said it was). Did you download the patch from the link at Atari's specific Temple of elemental evil section, under "patches and downloads"? If so it should be OK, but if not it might be this "rogue" patch. Another thing that makes me wonder is that I think you mentioned downloading from a couple of different sources, but I think there was only the one (maximum 2) links for downloading the official patch when I got it. The guys complaining about the non-patch patch were talking about mirror sites etc. and then it emerged that their "patch" was some aborted effort that wasn't completed.

Might be worth checking.....

If I have done this right the correct link is http://www.atarisupport.com/newfaq/...?browser=1&osType=WINXP&pageDisplay=DOWNLOADS

If this IS where you got the patch from, another thing that was suggested was that you get the "no-cd" fix in case it is a security conflict.

Hope these help!
