[C&C, AD&D, oD&D] The best of the old stuff...

1st Edition AD&D: Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Unearthed Arcana. WORLD OF GREYHAWK Boxed Set (1983). HackMaster: Player's Handbook (new races and classes, a lot of which are from Dragon magazine), Spellslinger's Guide (lots of new magic-using classes), and Hacklopedia of...

WotC Replies: Statements by WotC employees regarding Dragon/Dungeon going online

Because they know exactly how many magazines they print every month and exactly how many subscribers they have. They certainly don't have similar data on D&D's active player base.

    D&D 4E Why has 4E become the D&D zeitgeist?

But before it was announced? Historically it seems that new editions come out about 3-4 years after a revision. For example, 2e came out in 1989, 4 years after 1e was revised with Unearthed Arcana, etc. Third edition came out in 2000, 4 year after 2e was revised with the Player's Option and...

    Could Kenzer takeover Dragon?

You could just subscribe to KODT. . . . :)

    Could Kenzer takeover Dragon?

I believe there is a review process involved with Kenzer's "D&D" license. They don't have the resources to publish such a magazine anyway -- and why would they want to compete with their own very successful gaming magazine?

Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

If that were the case, then why isn't WOTC looking for someone else to take over the license on their (new) terms?

    1E help!

Oh, THAT's fine. But the monk's "THAC0" is the same as the cleric's rather than that of the thief's.

    1E help!

The monk only saves vs. missile weapons IIRC; he does not get a saving throw to deflect melee or unarmed attacks. Btw, the monk's attacking on the thief tables is an error. He should attack on the cleric tables. I don't recall whether you had houseruled the attack tables, but the monk is meant...

    1E help!

If DungeonMaester & his players are having fun with the rules changes he made, then what could possibly be wrong with them?

    Egg of the Phoenix Module?

Egg of the Phoenix is I12; I13 is "Adventure Pack I".

    No AoO?

Yeah, I don't think there was a term for it, but if you tried to run past a foe, or run away without having the initiative, then you would definitely provoke what is now called an Attack of Opportunity. Which makes perfect sense: "But sir, will we not hit our own men?" :)

    1e vs. 2e:

A lot of the rules changes that were to come with 2e were definitely foreshadowed in the Dragonlance Adventures hardcover (and in the Survival Guides and Oriental Adventures, too): Non-weapon proficiencies, specialty priests, specialized mages.

    1E help!

Barbarian and Cavalier can be found in Unearthed Arcana. Despite Philotomy's protestations to the contrary, they are well-thought out classes and can add a good deal of verisimilitude to a campaign. UA also introduced the thief-acrobat. "Specialty priests" are from the 2e-era.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

I'm surprised Heinlein isn't in that list. He seems right up your alley (especially, say, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress). Have you ever read The Mote in God's Eye by Niven & Pournelle? One of the best SF books ever written IMHO (and in Heinlein's opinion, too). Unfortunately the sequel (The...

    Magic Items in AD&D

The XP value of a magic item is 20% of its GP sale value, in general. This isn't stated anywhere AFAIK but you can just go down the list and see for yourself. One receives the XP value in experience if one keeps the item (because magical items are there own reward, n'est-ce pas?), but the GP...

An Examination of Differences between Editions

I think if one of my players wanted to create something, even an entire civilization, that fit into my campaign, I would let him -- less work for me. But if he wanted something that entailed more work for me (fitting a bizarro character concept into the campaign world), then there's not much of...

Keep on the Borderland ... how long does it take?

I've been using the module for 8 sessions (3-4 hours each) so far and the players are nowhere near done (SPOILERS BELOW): You can read about it in my blog. We actually haven't played in a year, but we're getting ready to start up again.
