wow This post sort of got away from me in the 12 hours since I looked at last. [Btw... Nice to see you here, Joe... always a source of opinion] Now. Let me clarify. If I sit down and write this book, it will be for everyone. It will talk to each kind of gamer, explain their role and make...

    better gaming through chemistry

excellent point. my bias is showing. but i don't believe munchkin players have anything to offer, and by default the DM is not obligated to offer him anything in return. he can go play zelda and be the antisocial power-gamer he wants to be against his xbox and not ruin anyone's fun... and...

    better gaming through chemistry

as a game designer, i've had hundreds of debates internally at AEG about what sorts of books would sell, etc. i've had conversations with gamers at conventions, game stores, parks, and dark alleys where bootleg pdfs are sold and bartered for cheap knock off mountain dew. in all this time, i've...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

its obvious your PCs are smart... but power-gaming, min-max, buffing like death ward are boring loopholes designed to avoid "thinking" through problems. if they rely on daddy's credit card to bail them out of a jam, then you need to either, cut off their allowance (the room casts dispel magic...

um... its like... um... a prison... you know... to ... um... keep undead inside... what did you think the locked doors were for?

Are you a good Dungeon Master?

modesty, they name is villain i've been dming since 1986, for years i was a chart-nazi i hated making decisions on the fly and i made charts for everything... even name generation, beard color, and tavern patrons. it was stupid. to some degree i still use these, but now just as tools, not as...

invistis isn't stupid... if he believes the PCs a threat... he would join forces with kasteoficiss and ambush the pcs when they think they've got her. oh... and start giving all your coporeal undead unholy might or some other "buff" power. have them walk into a room that casts dispel magic on...

    post-apocalyptic campaigns!

post-apocolyptic Being a huge fan of the genre, ever since red dawn and road warrior, I have a few ideas on the subject. If you want post-apocolyptic, just after, twilight: 2000 or price of freedom. Great games. Aftermath by FGU was okay. Merrow project was brilliant, but the system was number...

Arum can be a lot of things and can show up in a lot of places. Sweet the titan died as long ago as you'd like.... (in my head it was 50 years ago). he was put here by the celestials or the gods and his body didn't rot... and if you're a stupid creature and you see a giant dead body that...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

This is particularly interesting if the creatures remember longtail as a wererat. And then find out he's a chain demon now (because of the portal's power... or the imp's) If the PC's are going to mop up all the encounters with flaming sphere, its time to up the monster's resistances. Hint...

okay. i've thumbed through the text, looked at the maps, and pondered your question and thoroughly .... and i'm stumped but never fear, i have an idea and its quite easy to implement Each Room is filled with brilliant, almost blinding light. The walls glow with an unexplainable energy...

i was always under the impression that darkmantles, stirges, and the like ate warm blood... they don't like it once the creature is dead for too long, so they feed quickly and drain PCs and other "meat" just my two cents.

wow. hussar, this is an amazing observation. not a lot of people caught this and its one of the main reasons i laugh at people who bitch about the XP situation. we wrote 1600+ encounters. 1,600!!!! we cannot and should not as writers and designers be held accountable for what you do with those...
