D&D 5E (2014) Can I Move, Dodge AND Attack in the Same Round?

There is no general rule against it. It is just not possible for many characters most of the time because dodging is usually an action and attacking is most commonly an action and rarely do you get more than 1 action in a turn.

Raw explosive power requires being a fighter for action surge. Sorry. Although sorcerer's quicken can help too!

D&D 5E (2014) Encumbrance rule, do you use it?

The game allows you to pull out a healer's kit from your backpack, apply it to a person wearing armor who is running around engaged in a fight, and put it back in your pack. One handed. In 6 seconds. No, I don't bother with encumbrance unless there is a specific reason to, like they want to...

D&D 5E (2014) Bounded Accuracy in 200 Words or Less

Thus if your character slays the dragon and low and behold finds that magical +1 longbow he always wanted in the horde but does not get 5% better to hit because he either still need a 2+ or a 20, then there is a problem. Given the number of bonuses remaining in the game after the playtest...

The Second PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE Review

I think you mean "art" not "adventure". Thanks to sections of 5E books being half art we have common rules missing like no lava in the unusual terrain section or 8 sample traps compared to 4E's 23 sample traps. Rule repetition by putting in monster stats is space filler, much like...

The Second PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE Review

Ugh, it's much better if it's just in the book itself. Having to use an additional book is annoying, worse when there are multiple monsters on multiple pages for the same fight. So much handier if there was a PDF we could have on a tablet or print out...

    Venting on Sorcerer build

Even if 5E had bounded accuracy it has nothing to do with that situation. A level 6 vs. level 1 ranger, the +2 archery bonus and additional +1 proficiency equal out the DEX difference, add on top the extra attack class feature, horde breaker, hunter's mark and crossbow expert for dual hand...

    Venting on Sorcerer build

Earlier editions had training rules that required months of training between levels. So much training in fact that Temple of Elemental Evil was impossible if you used them as written.

    D&D 5E (2014) Did The Finished 5th Edition Change Anyone's Mind?

Very little changed over the course of the 2 year playtest. If you were to pull out the may 2012 packet and start playing it wouldn't be terribly different than pulling out your PHB, only of course with less pictures and less classes. So no, it hasn't really changed anything for me, still...

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

So you increase monster HP before the fight when you have the least information and will make the worst judgement about how many HP to add, but during the fight when you have more information and can make a better decision you refuse to alter HP? I don't really see the rationale, but as long as...

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

If they're rolling well or poorly no, that is the player's responsibility to deal with that situation. They know what the dice are doing and they can withdraw or celebrate a lucky fight. If I misjudged the encounter difficulty however, then yes.

    D&D 5E (2014) High Level 5e - any actual play? How's the balance?

Kinda dumb to melee without barbarian levels to halve damage or at least heavy armor master. If he's both he's only taking 3 points on a hit, easily kill all the orcs and regenerate all the axe wounds instantly with second wind. Hour's rest and he's fine. Wizard needs 8 hours to recover his...

[UPDATED AGAIN!] PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE - First Review!

There is a discontinuity in the power curve at level 5. A 5th level party getting 2x the number of attacks from the extra attack ability, 2x the number of shots with their cantrips which all double in power at level 5 and dropping fireballs on enemy groups that only have enough HP for fighting...

D&D 5E (2014) How has 5e solved the Wand of CLW problem?

Well you're in a very small minority then. Fights quickly become boring to most everyone else if they're just stomping puppies and never come close to losing.

D&D 5E (2014) How has 5e solved the Wand of CLW problem?

This is exactly what is happening in 5E. Just without wands. It's quite rare, unless the adventure is railroading you, that you can't take an hour off. And taking a day off, again, gives you all your HP back, unlike 0E-3E. If that is the case are you finding your PCs are going into...

D&D 5E (2014) How has 5e solved the Wand of CLW problem?

So with less healing available less damage gets done in a fight so fights are much less interesting, right? The reality is that characters have a lot more healing available to them in other ways that aren't called cure light wounds wands, but work a lot like it for free. - Fighters have...

D&D 5E (2014) Zone spells and amazing damage potential

Spirit Guardians works well with a Battlemaster's Maneuvering Attack. If you don't like it change turn to round.

D&D 5E (2014) How many magic items should a 4th. lvl PC have?

You won't be finding much from level 1-4 as it's accelerated leveling and it should only be a couple sessions to get through them. The rewards there are the levels. 4 or 5 is when you'll start finding more items as leveling is slower and the magic item are another way of rewarding success.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you feel like the "Sorcerer" is really lacking in options?

Other than spells, most characters don't get any options until 3rd or 4rth level. If you aren't playing with feats or multi-classing then some characters only really get a single option by level 20. The fact that sorcerers get a fairly large number of spells to choose from makes them one of...

    D&D 5E (2014) do CRs seem a bit arbitrary?

It's a bad argument. The Gargoyle, also CR 2, also has resistance, but has 52 HP. It also has a fly speed of 60, something the Grick wishes it had, to chase down and consume those pesky new bird men that are popping up everywhere. Compare the Bronze and Silver dragon wymlings for more CR 2...
