    Nish Thought

It took me a little bit to figure out what that word meant in the subject. Then, having read it in a couple other threads, I have to agree that it grates on my ear. Sure, I have heard, and even used, the word "inish" or "init" because it sounds like a contraction of initiative. Just glad it...

D&D 3.x Lightning Bolt 3.0/3.5 vs older editions

Now, I will admit, that as a curmudgeonly old gamer, I do not always use a grid when playing. Heck, 3.0 defaults to no grid in the examples. That being the case, I created a simple template (based off the passing template for Blood Bowl) that shows a five-foot wide area of effect and a ten-foot...

D&D 3.x Lightning Bolt 3.0/3.5 vs older editions

I just read the 3.5 SRD and compared it to my 3.0 SRD and PH. After having done so I see where WotC created more trouble then they needed to with this spell. Here is what the 3.0 SRD says: Notice that the area is either a 5-foot wide path or a 10-foot wide path. It's not a line, cone, or...

    Reach Weapons

One of my players asked me the other day about reach weapons that are not in the PH. He wants to know if there are any that also allow close attacks, as pretty much everything in the PH does not allow that. I said I would ask here and see what I could find. So, can you tell me what weapons and...

    How common is this?

I am not sure what you are trying to say. A cleric prays for (picks out) his spells in the morning (or when appropriate for his deity) and those are the spells he has for the day. If he picked one bless this morning and he casts it that is it, it cannot cast bless again till he prays for it.

    Fantasy laws, papers and permits

I have not done up anything like this, but I will offer to make said props if anyone wants a set. It will give me a chance to exercise my paper prop making skills and document design skills. I like making props, but I rarely think of doing them for my group.

    Old Timey Pronunciation

We would not pronounce it as a word, really. We usually asked, "What's your 'To Hit?'" Other then that, I would pronounce it with a short 'a' (as in 'at') and a long "o" (as in 'show') and say 'THA-ko'.

    Nice premade fantasy tokens?

I like the Fiery Dragon digital collections, a friend got one of the early ones. I am wondering if anyone can answer this question about them: If I want the latest set of 3e (not 4e) counters, which sets would I get?

    3.X Gamers?

Let's see... I belong to two groups. One has nine people in it. That group plays 3.0 with some house rules along with a couple of other games. The other group has five regulars and about another four or five casual players (it's a very loose campaign). That one is an OD&D group almost...

Designing a secret military research facility

I should go look in my files and see if I can find floor plans and what-not from some of the government facilities I worked at in the past. They are not secret, well not anymore, but they should be useful.

In search of a dwarven wizard

Sekhmet I don't believe that the chain shirt and the bracers of armor can stack according to the rules. They are both armor bonuses, aren't they?

In search of a dwarven wizard

Thanks for the information. I am wondering, how does one go about doing what you suggest here? Sounds like a particularly nasty combination.

In search of a dwarven wizard

Thanks for the information. I do have a few questions about the above quotation. What do you consider to be the "standard wizard buffs and tactics"? Standards vary, so I am sure that yours will be different then mine.

    Is this weapon OP?

It returns to the thrower, not to the square it was thrown from. Distance it flies back is not specified either. So, you can throw it just before teleporting back home, as long as home is on the same plane. Just a wild thought. Edit: I have to correct myself. The text on returning actually...

In search of a dwarven wizard

In my campaign the players are working towards an big encounter with their campaign-long archrivals - the dwarves. The dwarves around here are xenophobic, monotheistic, and run by a heavy-handed theocracy. That's just background, but it helps set the mood. What I am looking for is some...

    Most Played FRPG of 2010

I am a player in a weekly game of OD&D that's been going on, literally, for decades. I also run a D&D 3.0 game and a Gaslight: Victorian Fantasy game.

    What's On Your (Christmas) List?

Let me see, gaming things I would like for the winter holiday: A job to pay for new game stuff in 2011; A roof to keep all my current gaming stuff under; A steady supply of food to eat while gaming; Any game that helps me forget I have been without a job for too long. I think that covers my...

A Five Foot Vorpal Sword vs A Ten Foot Neck

I have to say that I agree with the majority who say that the size of a vorpal blade does not matter. It is magic, after all. MY question is what weapon are you giving them that has a five-foot long blade? Must be a greatsword. Can't think of anything else that would qualify.

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

Jeff, I am one of those GMs that still uses dice to create attributes. After 31 years of gaming Ifind I still have to remind people that we are playing a game. If the character you rolled up does not make you happy, or will not be fun for you, tell me. We will work together to make the character...
