D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

Regarding this supplement: since it's digital only, I would've given it 1-2 more weeks to proof-read for errors; there's a whole thread on DDB for all the grammar issues among other errors.

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

From what I've read, some orders were fulfilled while others weren't. Cthulhu Wars went back to Petersen Games, but the Mythos RPG books did not, so Quimbley retains the sales rights. That's probably why those books got scrubbed from Sandy's website.

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

That partnership looks to have ended early this year according to a message and an email that went out to backers of their current products. Quimbley apparently still owns their Mythos RPG books property and plan to continue sales, but with their shopify website closed up, the books are...

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

Huh. I was not able to access the website from my pc. Wonder why Edit: I believe Quimbly still has the publishing rights from the previous deal they made with Petersen games based on a blog by Sandy

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

OMG their website is truly gone. Glad I got a copy of the PDF backed up in Google Drive, but shame I didn't get any of the Mythos Sagas (Ghoul Island looked interesting)

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

I bought it, and from what I've read, it's designed more in line with CoC adventures in mind: short campaigns revolving around investigations and cults with players not knowing anything. Sandy's book goes more in depth, making it better for longer campaigns that go heavily into the lore

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

I was doing some comparisons yesterday between them. GOOs in Sandy's are treated more like a hostile environment using a 4 phase mechanic called Elder Influence, where each stage brings certain effects on players and surrounding environments. Each stage has mechanics for escalation to next stage...

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

So far, this book is vastly different from Sandy Petersen's version and more in line with the latest edition of CoC, though there's bound to be some similarities since they pull from the Mythos. The artwork on this book though is very toned down and more for mainstream appeal compared to...

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

Just swiped. I love Sandy Petersen Cthulhu Mythos, so more Cthulhu is always welcome. Here's hoping it does well so we can have more. Now let's see what I can incorporate in my current campaign...

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

I've see Neither Tales of the Valiant or Daggerheart will replace D&D because they don't have the same appeal. MCDM's system might pull more people, but ultimately it will also be a niche since it's more crunchy. 5E is popular because is simple yet somewhat crunchy, which is easier to pick up...

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

Of course they will try. I, for one, am ok with Psion being a spellcasting class--no need to reinvent the wheel. The Mystic partially failed because it tried to brute-force features that were re-skinned spells, and many didn't like that. Sidenote: With Warlocks also able to cast Telekinetic...

    D&D 5E (2024) Guess the next 3rd party D&D Beyond book.

It was mentioned before, but Crooked Moon comes to DDB on 17 June. Based on the Edge of Midnight campaign from Avantris and using 2024 rules.

D&D 5E (2024) Hunter's Mark, Hex, and the illusive balance

Yes, otherwise Bestow Curse is better since you have many more options with it and it's only hindered by being a touch spell. Look at Goolock, Draconic Sorc and Fey Wanderer; all three have the option (keyword: optional) to make their summon spells non-concentration for 1-minute when casting it.

D&D 5E (2024) Hunter's Mark, Hex, and the illusive balance

There's a disconnect: the spell becomes nearly useless in combat because you can only use it against one target and you're done. What player's want is the flexibility to have HM/Hex in combat while casting another concentration spell; that's where the 1-minute alteration becomes a buff--whether...

    D&D 5E (2024) Modest Ranger Fix

So, what happens to the rest of the casts at level 20? You have 6 total casts of HM at level 20, but if you make HM lose concentration and also have a 24 hour duration, what am I gonna do with the other 5 casts? What I mean is, that your fix completely invalidates the PB gain feature. There is...

    D&D 5E (2024) Modest Ranger Fix

I don't have a problem with the damage; my issue is the lack of resource cost. With the other features he added at previous levels, you only have to apply one use of your free HM casts to have 24-hr extra 2d6 per attack without concentration. Your other free casts become dead weight, and serve...
