This is definitely true, though the OP is probably correct that some rules (or at least, their names) will stay possibly forever. AC is a distinct example, despite the reversal from THACO.

Ah, so instead of replacing old rules it's really just adding rules from Tasha's... yeah that makes sense. Kind of makes a boring revision IMO. But I'm of the view that making sweeping changes is not good business sense, so will be avoided like the plague.

Thanks! Found the video; "Completely Compatible" sounds pretty definitive, but I don't really understand if an old PHB still works entirely if there is a new revised one. Unless the changes are entirely in format and not in rules. I haven't completed the surveys they refer to so can't comment...

Oh I agree, it's pretty rare. The only times it really happens is if someone has completely tuned out for whatever reason, and didn't plan their turn before it actually showed up. By now I've taught my players to plan out their turns during other people's turns (or mine), so it's pretty rare...

Published. For someone short on time, the outline of a module is invaluable. That said, I'm flexible around that outline in that I allow players to "explore the space" of material that isn't covered or not explored deeply. But the main conflict, NPCs and geography, that's from a module.
