    Ritual Ranges

I'm wondering if, for a ritual that lists no range, there is a default value that should be used. Last night, for example, I wanted to use a Knock spell and was curious as to whether I needed to be up touching the door. I then wanted to create a hallucinatory item and needed to know if I could...

Is there a default range for rituals?

How we Speed up our Encounters -- what about you?

If we do something so that encounters take about half as many rounds as normal, should we also turn all "Encounter" powers into "Milestone" powers? Is there a significant power increase if PCs have encounter powers available for most rounds of a fight, instead of just a few?

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

I think that our tactics and organizational skills are ok because things move along well in our other games (which includes a lot of 3.5 and Star Wars Saga recently). I'll start tracking rounds and looking for areas to increase efficiency, but my gut feeling is that it critters just have a ton...

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

The individual turns are going fast enough. Our problem is that there are just SO MANY of them. The sheer number of rounds it takes to complete a fight is keeping us from progressing the story much, even given a 5 hour stint at the gaming table. My guess is that some combination of decreased...

    Summoned Armor?

Thanks for the information all. The stuff about upgrade costs is handy to know.

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

This is great advice for removing the "Grind" (slugging it out after the fun part of the fight is done) but is there any consensus on how to reduce the combat time (as in number of rounds) for the system in general? We're only getting one or two fight done each session, which doesn't lead to...

    Ongoing damage vs regeneration

I hit a troll with Dragonfire Tar, which does no damage except for 5 ongoing fire. The troll takes ongoing damage at the start of its turn, but also does regeneration at the start of its turn. Which happens first (does it just choose whichever)? Am I correct in thinking that ongoing damage is...

Trigger: You are hit by an attack

I just discovered the Shield Shades is an "Immeadiate: Reaction", meaning it goes off after the trigger is completely resolved. I think that means you get to see the damage roll before deciding (as opposed to an "Immeadiate: Interupt", which would stop the attack procedure between the to hit...

Spare the rod and spoil the wand

Thanks. I also found another thread that answers the question. The FAQ says this: 19. Can a Warlock benefit from holding two rods? Yes, a warlock can gain the properties from two rods but he still can only use one to make an attack.

Spare the rod and spoil the wand

I there any downside to using, say, a Quickcurse rod in one hand (for the cursing) and a Wand +3 in the other (as the implement for your powers)? Seems a little weird if you could get the benefits of both in the same round (albeit with different actions). EDIT: That also would lead to some...

Spare the rod and spoil the wand

If I'm a Warlock with a Wand+3 in one hand and a Rod of Corruption +1 in the other, can I use the Wand as my implement for all of my abiltieis (to get the bigger bonus), but then use the Corruption power when my pact boon triggers? For referece, the rod is: Property: Whenever your pact boon is...

    Summoned Armor?

I asked because I was wondering if there was any reason (other than having to give Hasbro more money) someone would choose the Armor +3 over Summoned Armor +3. I'm new to 4E and so was wondering if I was missing something important. I see now, that I was not. I think that sums up very well...

Trigger: You are hit by an attack

The Warlock power "Shielding Shades" has: Trigger: You are hit by an attack Effect: Reduce the attack's damage to 0. Are damage dice rolled before the Warlock has to decide whether to use this power?

    Summoned Armor?

And attacks in the middle of the night will never catch someone unarmored - and it's an instant disguise - and no need to fear falling off the boat in your platemail - etc. - etc. - etc. All for the low low price of zero gold pieces! So yea, I"m going to have to consider that power creep.

    Summoned Armor?

Armor +3 and Summoned Armor +3 are both level 11 items that cost 9000gp. Why (other than having to give Hasbro more money) would someone choose the former over the latter? Is this just unabashed power creep?

Only one mark at a time?

The Fighter and Paladin marks specifically say that a target can only have one mark at a time. The Warden verbage doesn't say this. So if wardens are involved, a target can have multiple marks?

    What is "core"?

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks everyone for the pointers to the Manage tab (I had looked under Preferences to no avail). That will make it easier, whatever we decide.

    What is "core"?

My group is fairly new to 4th Ed. If we want to use a "core" or "vanilla", standard 4th Edition D&D rule set, what books etc. does that include? My guess is that it's all the generic hardcovers (we have most of them). Is the Dragon Mag stuff officially official? What about those bonus powers in...
