    Help with player inspiration

I'm writing as a DM trying to inspire his players to develop their characters more fully. I have one player in particular who has trouble developing her characters, or finding a hook if you will, causing her to revert back to playing the same basic character over and over again. For example, in...

When to use Luck Points, Action Points, Hero Points

I use fate chips, but much more frequently than you do. Each player starts out with one per session and is awarded one every time they roll a 20. Additionally, they get one every time they do something extra cool or roleplay in an exceptional manner. They can use them for just about anything...

    All Flesh Must Be Eaten

That was beautiful, man. So as not to hijack the thread, I've played in serious and light all flesh games, and the system works well for creating both moods. It's also a good way to introduce new players to roleplaying games. Have fun!

    Favorite Dungeon Modules

Tears for Twighlight Hollow tops my list. Nothing like a sado-masochistic priestess as the BBEG.

How have minis impacted your game?

This is an interesting question, if you broaden it to include all minis. I've found that when I run a combat and break out the minis, there is a 'disconnect' that the players go through. Roleplaying stops, there is little parley between pcs and npcs, essentially, it becomes a miniatures game...

If you use TurboTax and Bearshare, consider this fair warning

According to oldversion.com it doesn't, but I'd do some research before I installed it just to be safe.

If you use TurboTax and Bearshare, consider this fair warning

Actually, anyone with administrative rights (and with Windows XP, who doesn't?) can access your My Documents folder. If you want to secure it, go into the folders properties and remove access rights to everyone except yourself. Even then, if someone else has admin rights they can just go right...

If you use TurboTax and Bearshare, consider this fair warning

Dude, Bearshare adding your tax returns to your available uploads is the least of your problems. Bearshare comes loaded with spyware unless you've gotten one of the earliest versions from oldversion.com. Half the cyber-marketers on the www probably have your financial info by now.

    Fractal Terrains or Fractal Mapper?

I downloaded the demo for CC2 and found it quite interesting. Unfortunately, the demo for Fractal Mapper doesn't include the Fractal World designer. Bummer. My complaint with CC2 is that the maps look rather...cheesy. Kinda like the CRPGs from the late 80's early 90's era. Now Fractal Terrains...

    Fractal Terrains or Fractal Mapper?

Thanks for the response. Fractal Mapper seemed to offer more versatility for the price, but I wanted to get the opinion of someone who had the full app before I purchased. Thanks. What's this Dungeon Crafter all about?

    Fractal Terrains or Fractal Mapper?

I'm adding mapping software to my list of time-wasting activities. Which one would you recommend?

Help me flesh out this scenario

The idea of toasting faeries warms(no pun intended) my cold little DM heart. Gremlins is such a great movie. At some point during this adventure, some old bitty will be catapulted through a second story window.

Help me flesh out this scenario

Excellent ideas so far, but I want to give this a bump to the front page so the day-crew can have a look. Your thoughts and ideas are appreciated!

Help me flesh out this scenario

Setting: d20 Modern, Shadow Chasers. The group has been sent to a small town to investigate some unusual happenings that may be related to a shadow event. Farmyard animals and small pets have been turning up dead, drained of blood, covered in hundreds of nickel-sized bite marks. The culprits...

    Dark Inheritance Spycraft setting

Is anyone playing this? It seems to me like it's a dead setting, as I can't find anything on the Spycraft site (www.alderac.com ), and the latest update on the developer's site (www.mythicdreams.com) is from June of '04. What's the deal?

Questions About Shackled City Series - Spoilers

I'm about halfway through Life's Bazaar with my group, and they haven't been seriously challenged yet. They mopped up the skulks and creepers/stalker without batting an eye. And there is only three of them! To be fair, they were on a hot streak with the rolls, and I could have played the skulks...

    Adventure design help

I currently run two games with the same group: One is a standard d&d multiverse-hopping mid level game that took its inspiration from the old 'Quantum Leap' TV show. The characters are 10th level. The other is a Shadow Chasers/Dark*Matter/CoC game using the Spycraft ruleset. The characters are...

DMs, Do You Pander To Player Skills?

I provide opportunities for characters to use their skills, but if the player doesn't pick up on it, that's their problem. I make it a habit to collect character sheets between adventures just for this purpose: so the adventure is more closely tailored to the skills and abilities of the party...
