But, is a fireball spell a successful *attack*? There's no attack roll involved in using area of effect spells. I think it's more like successful *damage*. And it's not being damaged that dispells the images, it's being attacked. EDIT: Of course, it's probably more correct to say that the...

    Saving the Samurai?

315 maybe? That and #339 were the two that featured 'campagin setting articles'. I don't have my dragons handy to look through, though. :(

    Targeting into Concealment

Which your opponent can't do.. unless the caster was dumb enough to stand right next to the blinded opponent and not move away. The RAW is pretty simple. To target something, you need to be able to see or touch it. And, combat, by it's very nature is abstracted. Who says I'm not touching my...

    Search, Spot, Listen

I love the way True20 puts Spot and Listen (as well as Touch, Taste, and Smell) into one skill, Notice. It makes so much more sense. Um... no pun intended.

Would you allow this paladin in your game? (new fiction added 11/11/08)

I completely disagree. If a Lawful Good character expressly explains the situation (like "it's a one night stand and there's going to be no commitment"), there's no reason it's chaotic in any way. And, there's nothing necessarily unlawful with drinking or even partying, provided that no laws...

Taking your time and being careful

The game imposes a penalty if you rush only on a few specific skills. Most skills don't include penalties such as you list for the Diplomacy skill. But, for sake of arguement, what happens if I wanted to take 6 minutes on a diplomacy check, instead of the normal 1 minute? We know there's a...

    Targeting into Concealment

Makes perfect sense to me, especialy the way Hyp broke it down.

    Grapple a mounted opponent

Ah, I see. Very nice. And, since moving into the horse's square occurs on the same turn, the most a grappler could do is damage me 'as an unarmed strike' (step 3), before having to let go. But, now my DM is saying that since I "share the same space as my horse", the grappler can achieve Step...

Holding on to and "Returning" weapons

Um... Is this for all weapons? or just the lance? If it's for just the lance, that seems to be a very poor house rule. After all, *any* weapon can get stuck (especially piercing weapons) on a 'good hit'. If it's for all weapons, then, it's also a very poor house rule, as PCs will be the ones...

    Grapple a mounted opponent

Yes, I'd like to know some good answers for this too, as I'm playing a Knight who had three scrubs recently try to grapple her off her heavy warhorse. I thought the horse should get an AoO as the grapplers would be coming into her (and the horse's) square. I also think she should get some kind...

    Magic missile too strong?

Seriously, there are so many different counters for MM, it's not even funny. I can think of at least four right off the bat, only one of which stops all spells from 3rd level and below. Yeah, it's good for scrubs at higher levels, but many BBEGs will have the means to prevent being damaged by MM.

    Tumble Question

Exactly. That's how the rules present it, too. As if it were 'rough terrain', and only applies for the squares tumbled through, not the full move action.

    PHBII: Retraining?

Wow... Can this get any more melodramatic? For those who don't like it... Here's a suggestion that may not have been mentioned yet.. Just don't use it.

What happens when a disjunction hits a blessed book?

Well, I can agree with that. The 'fountain of parchment' is 1) funny to see as pages spew forth like a geyser and 2) lets the wizard recover all his spells (eventually). Of course, I personally hate the idea of 'spellbooks', and Fire-N-Forget magic anyway. It's one of the worst holdovers from...

    Trading in your familiar

Uh huh. I know *I'd* be calling shenanigans... If the PC's opponents haven't *regularly* been trying to sunder the Wizard's 'staff' (assuming that most wizards and sorcerers have been carrying a quarterstaff in the past, since it's so cheap and comes in handy for things other that just beating...

    Tumble question

Exactly.. The double movement is only used for the specific squares tumbled through. So, a rogue, for instance, can move two squares (using 10' of movement) to reach an opponent and then tumble through two squares (using 20' of movement, or 10' per square) to flank. As Karinsdad pointed out...

    Familiars as artillery "spotters"

Well, if you have a flying familiar, just cast Delayed Blast Fireball and give the familiar the 'marble' to drop on the enemies.

    Exotic Weapon Master question.

Well, the way I read it is that the weapon master gets the two-handed power attack bonus with the exotic one-handed weapon in one hand if it's the weapon master's weapon of choice.

Necromancer: which two schools to give up?

I really dislike the idea of dropping Illusion, just because there are so many good spells for your personal protection in there (such as Invisibility, Blur, Mirror Image, and Displacement). We had a Conjurer speciallist in one of our games who dropped Illusion and really regretted it.

    AC question

Hehe.. Our fighting types usually end up getting 'chainmail nightshirts' too. But, there was a good point brought out, in that while Bracers might not stack with other types of armor (like Mage Armor, full plate or whatnot), it's 1) always on, so if your mage has used up his or her Mage Armors...
