    Playground Adventure Environments

I think Sandbox, Playground, and Theme Park can be apt analogies to help frame a discussion about the particulars of someone's playstyle.

Homebrew What makes for a perfect base hub for adventures?

See, and I have found threats to the home base often energize players to care about it even more, and actively work to protect it against threats.

What makes Arthurian fantasy its own genre, different from more traditional D&D-ish medieval fantasy? What are some Arthurian-style plots?

Just for the heck of it, I want to mention the sheer flexibility of Arthurian media. Highlighted mostly by Legend Of The Sword with the guy from the biker show and some other famous actors whose names I don't remember, most importantly, directed by Guy Ritchie (my fav director). It's my personal...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

A whole stack of second hand games that I am currently pouring through. Highlights include a wealth of Modiphius 2d20 games and Symbaroum. Symbaroum especially has piqued my interest and I am devouring the books at a rabid pace. The system appears easy to use and the setting is a totally awesome...

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

Eons ago I remember an AD&D 2e game I ran, where the players convinced me to the let them start out with XP for the fighter player to be 15th level. I think the Thief was 18th or 20th level. It was fun for a few sessions, until the Wizard accidentally wiped out an entire village over a...

Homebrew What makes for a perfect base hub for adventures?

If that's how you choose to run your games. In my games a PC home base is merely another part of the world. This is something that I make sure to inform players of during Session Zero, so they are well aware of the possibility if the situation arises. Same as outline the fact that if the...

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

Never said it should be gotten rid of. It's totally not my thing, but is obviously loved by many as it is prevalent within the hobby. I just think it's one of the interesting quirks of the TTRPG hobby, in that it is far less prevalent in other forms of media. Not that zero to hero doesn't exist...

Homebrew What makes for a perfect base hub for adventures?

It varies greatly depending on the campaign. Though I will generally rule out the idea that a whole town or city would be considered the home base. The home base would merely be a location within said town/city such as a particular tavern or inn or maybe even a distinct neighborhood. That being...

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

Sincerely apologize. I wasn't trying to debate anything, merely point out that there are in fact a lot of people that actually follow polytheistic traditions. I am totally unsure of how closely the modern religions follow older ones like the Greek or Roman or Norse traditions. I was just...

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

I'm with you on that. I got over the zero to hero thing long ago. I want to play a PC that is competent in the main "thing(s)" that they are expected to be skilled at doing. I find it kind of funny that the zero to hero thing is still so prevalent in TTRPGs as it is much less a feature of other...

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

True, in which case you could ask one of 84 million polytheistic Hindus what it's like to gain some insight.

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

You could ask one of the 1.2 billion Hindus that live on planet earth, they might have some insight into how it worked.

In a fantasy world filled with magic and miraculous beings, will the religious concepts of the locals be completely different from the human of Earth?

People would either go all in and consider all things divine. Or go the other way and consider all things, not matter what was claimed about them, to not be divine. Great debates and wars would happen for all eternity by the two factions.

    Modiphius 2d20 Advice

That was basically my first idea too. However, unlike something like Star Wars and Tatooine, where I could at least point to Andor and say "look, no Tatooine" as the story never went to (or mentioned) Tatooine. With Dune it's a little different. The whole setting revolves around Arrakis. The...

    Modiphius 2d20 Advice

What about Delta Green? I have that and read it but not played it. Or OpenQuest, which I have run on a couple of occasions when people considered Mythras a little too crunchy. I am familiar with several iterations of various Runequest derivative games including some Legend series and Age Of Shadow.

    Modiphius 2d20 Advice

Cool, I will look into it! I don't have a regular group of players, instead recruiting players on a "per campaign" basis from the pool of TTRPG players active in the local gaming community. I do however play at a "boardgame cafe" so that will be a leg up to try to find potential players. I will...

    Modiphius 2d20 Advice

Haha, sorry, I should have said meta currency. I forget that bennies isn't a universal term. I have never actually played Savage Worlds, but my first exposure to meta currency was hearing people talk about bennies so I tend to refer to all meta currency as bennies. Like how lots of people refer...

    Modiphius 2d20 Advice

Star Trek would be my first choice as I am a casual Trekkie (Trekker) and grew up on NG and DS9. Never watched TOS save the movies. Initially skipped Voyager, but when I was in my late 20s it was broadcast late on TV and they repeated it in a loop so I watched it through twice over and it was...
