Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

I've seen mostly positive reviews for it (outside of these forums, at least) with a reference to bugs that need squashing as the big go to complaint. That said, I didn't know it originally had a 250 member development team at the start. Which indicates that the vast majority of engine-designers...

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

It may be that Project Sigil is dead... It may also be that the bulk of the design work is completed and at this point it's mostly a matter of continuing to add art assets while bug-squashing and the bulk of the team is no longer required to build the code-base or establish new mechanical...

D&D General The Disappearance of D&D from Mainstream Retailers

I bought the Psionics Handbook, 2e, at a Barnes and Noble. In a mall. In 1991 So. Y'know. Might just be a matter of which stores in the 80s and 90s were better about carrying game books than a matter of "Mainstream stores didn't carry it in the 80s and 90s".

Level Up (A5E) What would you do to simplify A5E and/or speed up combat?

Definitely an interesting way to do it, but has the downside of 'Ruining' some spells. I.E. if I use Hold Person on the BBEG whose turn comes after 3 other party members but he instead jumps the line to 'next' and throws a save, Hold Person is less effective than expected. The main reason I...

Level Up (A5E) What would you do to simplify A5E and/or speed up combat?

    1) Players roll everything. Transferring NPC Saving Throws and stuff into passive values and having players roll spellcasting checks against them makes things much faster. It turns everything into an attack roll and homogenizing that makes the game much quicker in play because everyone just...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

In a surprise to probably no one, Justin Lanasa has started sharing Andrew Tate's material on his Facebook page -after- he was returned to the US in order to avoid sex trafficking and rape charges in Romania. What an absolute creep he continues to show himself to be.

    1) Wrong thread for Zak S. Apologetics. 2) The article from Dr. Clio Weissman is essentially one on the evils of "Cancel Culture" and written from a perspective of that bias. 3) The people being interviewed do not "Admit to making it up" as that was never Clio's rhetorical goal, nor what she...

    Psionics--the Poll!

While you have had issues getting people to play psionics, which is sad. I promise there are people out there who do. I get shouted out in discords, on the forums, and in direct messages on X and Bluesky and Tumblr and Discord from people who are playing Espers or who have a player at their...

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

Oh, for sure. I don't anticipate WotC will EVER change how languages function. I just had a thing I thought of to share, and shared it. And got challenged, and responded. Y'know. General discourse.

Decided to look at the DTRPG stats on Paranormal Power... 1300+ copies, and another 200ish Esper/Powers freebie PDFs out there. There's 1,500 or more people out there in the world using the Esper. I feel like a decently sized fish in a tiny tiny pond!

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

Because language in D&D sucks. Both mechanically and narratively. And it's one more lingering thread to the idea that races are monolithic and biologically dedicated to a specific identity. Language in D&D and any TTRPG which has language is going to be a core element of a given setting. And...

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

Someone could certainly make multiple pages worth of tables, sure. And not the actual important bit... 'kay. There is a LANGUAGE part of the D&D core rulebooks. Whether they were to use a NEW system or an OLD system there would still be a LANGUAGE part of the book. The "Opportunity Cost"...

Yeah, that's just doing too much. I feel like making the bar lower is more important.

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

No. I didn't ask the question. I posited an opinion. And I didn't get "The Answer". I assume the actual answer is a lot more simple than any kind of considered thought about complexity: There's Languages in the game, already. End of thought. Which is why the "Complex Rules" is about breaking...

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

Writers cost between 5 and 25 cents a word. WotC, of all companies, can afford to have someone write 2,000 words on Language. "Limited developer resources" my left butt cheek. Like. We're not talking about AAA Gaming high end graphics and engine coding, here. We're talking about writing up a...

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

Oh, for -sure-. This isn't meant to be 100% true to life. It's meant to be a step up from race-languages and the slight reduction in the language-barrier. I wouldn't want an -actual- true to life language system for ANY game. The Syntax, alone, would be hyper frustrating.

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

At the system level the best you can do is introduce the system. And WotC could use Eberron or Faerun or Greyhawk to show an example of how it's done, or just use real world languages like I did. Sort of like how they had the Appendix B "Gods of the Multiverse" in the 2014 edition including...

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

Physics and language both exist in the game world as elements of verisimilitude and challenge. They aren't one or the other and ne'er the twain shall meet. 1) Racial languages suck. 2) We should do regional languages instead. 3) We should use 'language families' as a gapfill to make languages...
