10 Questions for the Quarterstaff Implement contreversy

I'm not trying to be a rules lawyer here and enforce anything based on a supplement. On the other hand, considering how it's all supposed to be part of "core", I don't want to dismiss it off-hand either. I'm merely pointing it out as something that I think that WotC needs to provide some...

Staff Fighting and Dual Implement Spellcaster

I saw it exactly as you do, but after the Eberron Player's Guide I'm not so sure.

10 Questions for the Quarterstaff Implement contreversy

Except they specifically said "two-handed implement, such as staffs", as opposed to "a two-handed weapon used as an implement" or similar. I think they need to provide clarification.

    Rules for selling gems?

Actually, why dispense with the Diplomacy? Maybe they can convince him to pay a higher price, but it might require them to use other skills or actions to convince him. What I'm talking about is a skill challenge, where the reward would be a minor parcel as far as you are concerned, but it...

    Non-combat uses for martial powers

Except an Eladrin or Shadar Kai don't even need to knock or someone to open up the door. As long as they can look in a window or something, they can teleport inside. Right?

    Rules for selling gems?

Ok, well that isn't so bad then. So if I understand you correctly, you've effectively given them a treasure parcel as a quest reward for a quest they haven't done yet, but can't spend until they've done the quest. ;-) What if they decide they really want something before then and buy...

    Rules for selling gems?

There are 2 comments I'd like to make on this. First of all, this is the kind of thing I was warning about. If your players feel that this adds something to the game, and they like this, then great, keep it up. However, this is something that could very easily become tedious and frustrating...

    Non-combat uses for martial powers

I guess this makes Warlocks with Ethereal Sidestep to be great burglers. Eladrin and Shardar-Kai aren't aren't bad either (once every 5 minutes). On the other hand, I can't say I like the idea that so many characters can just teleport through a closed window if they can see through it... In...

    Rules for selling gems?

I think what Erik suggested is reasonable, if you have a player who wants that. However, just beware of the common DM mistake of houseruling elements that you don't like as a DM because they don't feel right to you, and as a consequence increasing tedium and decreasing fun in your game. I've...

Staff Fighting and Dual Implement Spellcaster

I'd allow it just on the basis that otherwise a staff wizard is at a disadvantage to non-staff dual implement wielders, since a staff is a two-handed implement, according to the new Eberron Player's Guide (which I brought up in another thread).

10 Questions for the Quarterstaff Implement contreversy

The fact that the fluff makes sense for it not to be able to be embedded does not change the fact that rule specifically refers to it as a "two handed implement." Furthermore, your explanation to back it up is a fluff interpretation, and not supported by rules or even "official" fluff. Before...

10 Questions for the Quarterstaff Implement contreversy

Actually, this is what I have said and believed, but since seeing the Eberron Guide, I'm not so sure. I created a new discussion on this (linked and quoted below) since I thought it was kind of a different topic than the core topic here. Staff 2-Handed Implement according to Eberron Player's Guide

Staff: 2-Handed implement, according to Ebberron Player's Guide

I know that many (including myself, and the character creator) considered a staff implement to be usable as a 1-Handed item when used as an implement, even if it might require 2 hands to use it as a weapon. However, there is a little quote in Eberron that caught my eye. Is it unable to be...

    Rules for selling gems?

I wouldn't say it's a no-no, just that it's not explicitly supported by RAW. They made a conscious decision to treat gems just like currency for the sake of convenience. A Haggling system can easily be turned into a variation of a trade skill, which 4E got rid of by default. Adventurers are...

Surrender != death (Forked Thread: Intimidate in combat)

I'd have to agree with that. I originally didn't intend to stir up so much controversy with what was intended as an offhand comment or two. This is probably why they got rid of rules to enforce alignment in the first place. ;-) So... back on track, I do think that intimidate is valid and...

Surrender != death (Forked Thread: Intimidate in combat)

As I said earlier, it was a poor word choice. I was tired, and there had been a small number of statements made during this discussion that I felt either misunderstood , misconstrued, or mocked my viewpoint, and that me feel a tad more defensive than usual. Looking back, I did say initially I...

Surrender != death (Forked Thread: Intimidate in combat)

I was having an idea attributed to me that was contrary to what I had been saying for the last several posts and I'm not allowed to point out that is not a fair representation of what I'm trying to express? Perhaps I could have used a better word than misrepresent (such as misunderstand), I...

Surrender != death (Forked Thread: Intimidate in combat)

This is definitely not the style of play that I've experienced. It is valid, but I don't think I'd enjoy it. In our games, DM's avoid punishing players for decisions they make in order to be true to their character or alignment. We certainly have had situations came up where we were forced...

Surrender != death (Forked Thread: Intimidate in combat)

I think you're the first person I've encountered on EnWorld that comes across as condescending, sarcastic and rude in most of their responses to me... Maybe it comes across different than intended, but that's how it seems... You are taking a contradiction from the beginning of the conversation...

Surrender != death (Forked Thread: Intimidate in combat)

I don't think of 4E as taking out alignment, but rather taking out mechanical enforcement of alignment. Perhaps it's a minor difference to some. But yes, your example and much of this thread clearly shows how people can have very different views on what is evil or chaotic, and mechanics that...
