    Anyone excited for DCC RPG?

I'm amazed at how many people find d14, d7, etc to be deal breakers. Then again, I love weird dice and I already own a d3, d5, d7, d14, d16, d24, and d30. They weren't hard to get, nor were they expensive. I just checked Amazon, and a set of d3+d5+d14+d16+d24 is less than ten bucks. I will...

Poll: What is the highest level you've ever gamed to?

Highest level PC that I ever had was a 19th level cleric. He began at 3rd level, but he was level drained for 2 levels that he got back through hard knocks, so IMO he earned all 19 levels. Highest level PCs that I've ever DMed for reached 15th level, but one of those is still active and will...

How many Gaming Systems Have You Used in the Past Year?

In the past year I have run AD&D 1E (many times), Champions (several times) and Call of Cthulhu (once). I have played Savage Worlds (quite a few times), Champions (once or twice), Traveler (once), and AD&D (twice).

    Worse. Character. Name. Ever!!

Did his wife ever get tuned into a pillar of Esalt? As far as bad names, I've seen a lot of them. There was the drugheaded friend that named his PCs "Cannabix" and "Ganja". There was the fellow that named his character "Goe" (pronounced "Joe", so that he could be "just plain Goe"). The dwarf...

Free puzzle: The room of runes

Another possibility: only prime-numbered tiles are safe. Of course, that's assuming that prime numbers start with 1, as I was taught as a boy. Nowadays, mathematicians would say that the 1st prime number is 2. Once again in white text on white background, highlight to see.

    Distrusting NPC Issues

Rechan, is it possible that the problem lies with you? I was once in a game where every trusted NPC betrayed us. This got really old, and we learned to stop trusting NPCs. Ever. Have you played the "Trusted NPC betrays you" card too often? If so, you can't expect them to trust NPCs. If not...

Free puzzle: The room of runes

Too opaque. The only solution that suggest itself is that odd numbered tiles are the safe ones. (I used white text on white background to avoid spoiling the puzzle if I'm right.)

DMs: Have you ever done this?

If you want them to be able to trade GP for information, no need to metagame anything. Let them consult a sage, who will (for a fee) give them the info that you want them to have. Edit:OK, I should've read the thread first, the Shaman beat me to it.

    The monster you fear most

Maybe missing that distinction resulted in the difference in people's responses. Most people use the word "phobia" carelessly, while the woman afraid of spiders had an actual phobia. I don't like heights, but describing my PC falling won't fill me with terror, because I don't really have...

Legends and Lore - Player vs. Character Poll Thread

This. If a player says "My character looks under the bed," and the treasure chest is under the bed, no die roll needed. If a PC searches for secret doors, just searching the right spot might not find the secret door, so out come the dice. Although if the PC twists a torch sconce and that's what...

The Player Psychology of Fleeing Villains

Its the duty of the DM to play the NPC villain according to his abilities and personality. Some fanatical or arrogant foes will fight to the death, but most will try to escape if defeat seem certain. Smart/wise foes will have prepped an escape route ahead of time, while villains with less on the...

    New System Deal Breakers

So that's two things that you have against Savage Worlds, as it has both. :) I kind of agree with you about point 2, actually, but I'll play devil's advocate. "Advantages/Disadvantages" systems can work, they just need the GM to make sure that no one is allowed to create a hopping psychopath...

    Bicycles in fantasy?

Bicycles in general use would be jarring to me as a player. Brian Lumley did this in his stories set in H.P. Lovecraft's Dreamlands - and they really felt out of place. A bicycle (or other technological item) as a rare device in the hands of some character wouldn't bother me.

    Superhero RPG suggestions?

Another vote for Champions here. It allows a lot of scope for creativity in creating a character. For the math-phobic there's a character generation program to help.

    Deity power level = Joke?

That's fair enough. My point is that with different assumptions, the OP could have it his way also. Its not correct to make the blanket statement: as you did in your previous post. It could make sense, it depends on the assumptions going into it.

    Deity power level = Joke?

Sammael, you made assumptions to prove your point. If the assumptions don't hold the proof doesn't either. For example, you assumed above that the power of a deity is directly proportional to the number of worshipers. Maybe it goes as the square. or is exponential. Maybe a greater god is...

Queen of the Demonweb Pits - what's so bad?

I think that the difference in tone upset some people. I liked Q1, myself. The spider ship of Lolth didn't bother me, as I like a mix of science-fictional and fantasy elements. When I ran it, the metal of the ship was imbued with the trapped souls of the damned (I can't recall if I made that up...
