    Legand & Lore: Magic Items

You guys can roll your eyes about balance as much as you like, but a lack of balance doesn't make the game more fun, it makes it less fun. Hand waving who gets the vorpal sword is not good design will result in an inferior game.

    D&D 5E (2014) What if 5e had 2 types of roles

It's not really difficult at all to design such a system, or to design a chassis that different types of events could be based on. For instance, the basic system could establish a certainly range of risk vs reward, and then different types of Tasks (or examples of a given task) would set...

    D&D 5E (2014) What if 5e had 2 types of roles

Ahh, but you see, that's my point. If you're the kind of player who wans to have different, distinct roles- not my style, but ok- then adding roles helps wiht that. Everyone still gets equal time in combat. OTOH, my preferred method would be universal noncombat roles. It depends on the...

    Legand & Lore: Magic Items

Yeah, I feel as if people are reading a lot of good design ideas into an article which barely even hints at them being implemented.

I made up a rumour that 7e is coming!

Meta-Meta threads like this are just more proof that Enworld 3.0 is just around the corner.

    D&D 5E (2014) What if 5e had 2 types of roles

A second set of roles could be a really solid addition. A lot of people aren't getting the kinds of advantages it has- *It allows people to play different roles in the same game. I might play a defender in combat, and be really front and center, but then play a 'lookout' in noncombat, and be...

IIRC That's the standard language as of monster vault. I try to keep the language uniform as much as possible.

The GSL specifies lower left quadrant, and i'm pretty sure I have to include it- I was tempted to leave the trade dress out, and just have the copyright notice, but I don't think that's an option. I'd make it smaller but again, it is supposedly meant to be used full size, or close to it.

D&D 4E [4e]THE MONTH OF MONSTERS: One D&D 4e monster every day in October, for free!

A MONTH OF MONSTERS Welcome to my thread. Every day this month, i'm going to be writing up and uploading a brand new 4e monster which will be available for free download. There won't be any art for the monsters, but each will have detailed descriptions and notes on Lore and Tactics. Each...

D&D 4E [4e] Monster Design - a flying monster built to fight on the wing.

Thanks for your feedback. The swoop is indeed a blast, apologies for the error, I'll fix it tomorrow if I remember to. The soar/defense combo is at the heart of the monster's lurker mechanic, but it can be overcome. I was attempting to create a lurker with a strong mechanic, while also not...

D&D 4E [4e] Monster Design - a flying monster built to fight on the wing.

Previous thread: http://www.enworld.org/forum/4e-fan-creations-house-rules/311068-monster-design-great-beast-unbeatable-foe.html Death From Above Flying creatures don't tend to fit well into normal combat. The flying rules are an add-on to the system and while creatures flying close to...

Monster Design - The Great Beast - An Unbeatable Foe

D&D 4E Can WotC Cater to Past Editions Without Compromising 4e Design?

No, I'm just saying that 4e bashing has been the status quo of discussion of it for a long time, and it's clearly hugely distorted the dialogue. I don't think of AbdulAlhazred in that way, and I apologise if that distinction wasn't clear. Frankly, I would not even have replied if it was one of...

D&D 4E Can WotC Cater to Past Editions Without Compromising 4e Design?

No edition holds a candle to 4e in this respect. In previous editions, monsters have mostly been bags of hit points. In 4e, the only way they are uniform is they they have a uniformly high level of individualisty and distinctiveness. This is not accurate in the slightest. 4e monsters do not have...

D&D 4E Can WotC Cater to Past Editions Without Compromising 4e Design?

The power based approach 4e uses is just plain better than the previous edition's efforts in this regard. Having wildly different hit points or imbalanced 'save or die' powers don't really make monsters distinct, it just makes them inconsistant. Only in 4e do they have genuine and distinct...
