Hybrid D&D: Combining editions (especially 3E and 4E)

I am also working on creating a hybrid like this. I think there are a lot of folks out there that want something like it. The problem is that I don't think you can do it easily. It's not somewhere where a few house rules works. There are too many changes. The other issue is...

Enlightened Grognard: Reducing the Skill List

This is a cool approach. Thanks for posting it!

Enlightened Grognard: Reducing the Skill List

If you're one of the majority of folks who think that the skill system in 3.5e has too many skills, I'd like your input on what changes you think are good ones to reduce the number of skills in the game. Thanks, :AMN:

4E Situational Modifiers: Too Many or Not Enough?

I posted a proposed solution to this last night: http://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-discussion/268070-avoiding-temporary-modifiers.html

    Avoiding Temporary Modifiers

At first blush I'd say: 2 temporary tokens of each type. That means you could use an action point to use them offensively but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

    Avoiding Temporary Modifiers

A common issue with fantasy RPGs is remembering temporary bonuses and penalties. For example, having a "-2 to attacks, saves and skills for 4 rounds" is easy to say but, in practice, it's difficult for people to keep track. Some players have found semi-effective ways to deal with this. (The...

    Ander power cards

Publishing those cards is a big copyright violation. I'm told they are updated and that you can get them somewhere but to post a URL on EnWorld is a disservice to this site. FWIW, using the Ander format with the MSE program is easy and you can create your own cards that way.

D&D 4E Critical Hits and Wounds in 4e

I like the spirit of what you're doing but there's a lot of bookkeeping here that I think will become burdensome.

How to Map/Pace a Ruined City?

I'm no expert, but I think a ruined city is more like a wilderness than a dungeon crawl. Give the players a map of the city that has only major streets and a few landmarks in it. Let them wander about, getting lost in side streets trying to find their way from place to place. There should be...

What do you call your company of adventurers?

Three names I can recall: Gumby Patrol Company of the Pantsless Dwarf The Band of Fate ...no winners there. Oh well.

    An Indecent Proposal

Strong agreement here. I've been working with the idea of removing all temporary attack and defense modifiers from the game and replacing them with a token pool that you can draw on for a bonus. Doing things that normally gain you an attack bonus instead give you tokens. Whenever you attack...

Where do you find time to keep up with so many blogs??

Is it ever a good idea to hit the party?

I think there are definitely times when it's a good tactic. But I think it's important for the player creating the effect to get permission of the player whose PC will be affected.

    Removing homogenity from 4e

I've tried most of those and none meet my criteria. Someone also recommended FantasyCraft. That's a dud too. I think what's needed is a true balance between the spirit of 4e and 3.5e and I don't think that exists.

    possibly not a real thread

I believe that this is almost, but not quite, entirely like a thread.

    Removing homogenity from 4e

I've been playing 4e since it came out and I just can't seem to get into it. I am absolutely delighted by many of the rule changes they've made but I was feeling BryonD's same *blech* over an undescribable sense of homogenity. Recently I started playing a d20 game again (Iron Heroes) and that...

Yet another solution to the Minion Problem

A number of solutions to the fact that minions are too easy to kill have been posted. Some solutions I've seen along with the chief argument against using them: 1. Double or triple the number of minions (problem: too many bad guys!) 2. Increase minion hp and require that you do at least...

For me it's the stories. The Pathfinder Chronicles story arcs are reliably excellent.
