Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Encounter Design Simplified

That is because sending 6 Ogres is pretty boring at 5th level. The system excels more when mixing and matching - so, sending an Ogre Barbarian and his 2 Ogre henchmen might be alot more interesting and challenging for the group. :D

A call to would-be 4E publishers (if it wasn’t for the GSL).

Oh, it should also be noted that it seems that Wizard is a little confused what their trade dress is made up of: http://rob-donoghue.livejournal.com/303420.html

    free 4E?

Oh, it should also be noted that it seems that Wizard is a little confused what their trade dress is made up of: http://rob-donoghue.livejournal.com/303420.html Might be important for designing a Free4E :)

The time has come to focus our attention on this, offsite, because I don't think ENWorld would appreciate us putting the website in potential jeopardy by developing it onsite at the ENWiki.

    free 4E?

I would suggest setting somethin up at www.pbwiki.com for example (or another wiki service) from which we can work, discuss and focus our attention.

Alternatively, we can claim fair use from EarthDawn for some ideas, for example.

What benefit is there for a smart/careful 3pp to use the GSL?

A lot of people seem to be VERY scared of Wizards and their non-existing Cease and Desist letters (which aren't going to be sent to either Kenzer or Goodman) for no apparent reason. For the Gorilla to send of its troops of lawyers, they need a real target worth attacking - ie copyright...

Looking For a New "Non-Fantasy" Ruleset

I would suggest the True20 setting with possibly Reign of Discordia (has space combat and spaceship rules) - but the new revised book is really ALL you need. It even comes with a "Sci-Fi Genre" chapter with specific rules, ideas and themes.

Goodman is clearly going to the GSL.

Lets try this ONE more time: "6.1 OGL Product Conversion. If Licensee has entered into the “Open Gaming License version 1.0” with Wizards (“OGL”), and Licensee has previously published a product under the OGL (each an “OGL Product”), Licensee may publish a Licensed Product subject to this...

Actually, they announced they are stopping the release of 3.5 PDFs. Which to me would indicate that these are going to be changed over to the Pathfinder license and re-released as "Pathfinder Adventures" or something like that. :)

Flynn, thanks a bunch for sharing that information - while I haven't gotten Fantasy Concepts yet, it is on my "to get list" and for good reasons too. :D

    The Fate of D20 Modern

QFT Alternity, with polished rules about TL's would be amazing. But when ones does not have Alternity, one must seek Alternate Horizons.

Absolutely, it should be as fluff-free as possible - both for potential gamers and for the purpose of making an "4E OGL" derivate.

BTW I just realized that Earthdawn provides copyright-based inspiration for a lot of what is in 4E. Or, I read about it - but it makes sense: http://xomec.livejournal.com/160677.html and http://xomec.livejournal.com/182947.html - read it and smile :D

Yes, you are correct - those are just renamed variants. But in making a simulacrum we can't COPY what they called it, rather we need something equivalent derived from the OGL. Why NOT present powers as tables? It is an easier way of collecting all information in one place.

    True20 Modern Settings?

Ah yes, I know that - I've holding my Amazon order of books to go with the print of Reign from Reality Deviants.

What needs to be fixed/improved in d20 Modern?

People were discussing the classes earlier in this thread, to which I would point to either True20's abstract roles (Warrior, Expert, Adept) which fit pretty well into a Modern game, or to Alternity's occupations/roles (Tech Op - anything with extensive knowledge, from Doctor to Engineer, Combat...

    True20 Modern Settings?

Since my group decided to get into True20 I was designated as the "find and collect" guy for the group and I've been looking around for interesting True20 material. I found some good advice in the form of what general books to buy and got interested in Reign of Discordia and Blood Throne...

Well, since the "normal" rules refer to Heroic all the time for the first 20 levels (what you called the "blank") I would say that D&D was divided into Heroic/Epic and that Paragon was added simply to diversify the spread. Kinda like we could do with Legendary.

    free 4E?

Unfortunately, many of the GOOD ideas in BoXM 1+2 (such as fighting domains and the breather and grace concepts) were left outside the OGC. :(
