    D&D 5E (2014) On FAQs and Twitter

As this is going to be something of a rant, let me start by saying I _really_ like 5e. I've not yet had a chance to play (my group wants to stay with Pathfinder), but I like it much better than any other edition. That said, the rules-light thing is one of the best features, but it is also a...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you concentrate on a spell while resting?

You'd have to drop it to 0 hps to move it again...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you concentrate on a spell while resting?

That's a very odd ruling and I suspect won't stay. The spell says you can use a bonus action to move it in a later round. It doesn't require a time frame. And with a 1 hour duration, I don't expect that was the intent either. We'll see...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you concentrate on a spell while resting?

The word concentrate would seem to be contrary to the notion that one could do it while resting. But rules wise, I've not seen anything that prevents it. And RAI, it's not clear concentration takes any real effort--you can do it for 24 hours with no chance of failure unless you get hurt etc...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Champion weak compared to Battle Master?

You give up an attack and a bonus action. That's great. I may steal that character idea from you...

D&D 5E (2014) What armor can druids wear? Is there a way to get a decent AC?

I don't know if Barkskin was intended to stack with shields (I think probably was, but no even a little clear) or Dex (almost certainly not). But I can't imagine it was intended to not stack with cover. That would be _really_ strange and meta-gamey.

D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master vs Great Weapon Master

I'd be surprised were it otherwise. But could you point me to where this is coming from? His twitter feed?

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Champion weak compared to Battle Master?

Yep, at lower levels Commander's Strike is pretty weak. Not only do you give up your attack action, you also lose your bonus action. And you have to "pay" for it. Which would be fine if there was a big payoff, but the rogue is probably doing only 3d6+3 (13.5) and you are probably doing...

    What feats are "missing"?

I think feats are likely the hardest thing to design in the game. You want things that not everyone (or even each member of class X) would want or feel they need. You also want something that "anyone watching the game for an hour would realize who has what feat(s)". Charmer I like, but I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimal Multiclassing

That is an interesting point. It generally puts one behind on bigger powers in one's class and stat gains later, but yes, that's probably right just looking at 5th level. Interesting. Not sure that changes my mind, but it's a heck of a good point.

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimal Multiclassing

Warlock 2 is hard to argue with. Goes well with just about anything. Not sure I'd actually take it very often, but it's cool and gives reasonable mechanical advantages while giving the potential for lots of cool and weird powers. Paladin 2 is actually pretty useful too. The ability to smite...

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimal Multiclassing

Yes, one can manage character ideas and other things with backgrounds rather than multi-classing. But the rule appears to be there to gimp multi-classing warrior types. I'd assume because they are worried about multi-classing warriors being too good. A real concern, but I think the stat-gain...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sleep Spell 1st-Level, No-Save Death Spell?

I think 5*4.5 or 22.5, a bit more than twice magic missile. Question: I don't have the PHB in front of me, but as I recall, it wasn't clear to me how those hit points got affected. Is it closest to the middle? Least HP first? Something else?

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimal Multiclassing

I'm not sure other people are happy--I've not seen a multi-class character described that has two classes with multi-attack in it that _hasn't_ complained. And I think it's well past belief--doing half as much damage is really huge. This isn't like iterative attacks in 3e, this is a pure...

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimal Multiclassing

When most games are in the levels 4-7 range, you really don't get to play the multi-class character you want to play _or_ you suck at doing it from levels 5+. They went far out of their way to enable spellcasting multi-classing. And they did it quite well IMO, especially with respect to 3e...

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimal Multiclassing

I _think_ you'll find that few people are suggesting marital characters multiclass with other martial characters. _that_ part is pretty borked. I'd like to see levels stack for getting the extra attack feature (2 attacks only). The ability gain problem is the same for everyone, but warriors...

D&D 5E (2014) What armor can druids wear? Is there a way to get a decent AC?

Hello all, My reading of the druid is that of the PHB armors, they can wear leather, padded and hide for certain. Studded leather is unclear (is "made of metal" the same as "has some metal"?) This seems really painful for a druid--it's hard to build a casting (one who is generally not wild...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock/Cleric Best of all Worlds

Not sure if that's a rhetorical question or not, but they clearly did it to weaken multi-class options. I can see why--some dips are very nice indeed. But it ends up hurting warriors who are splitting between two classes evenly a bit more than _I_ think it should.

D&D 5E (2014) The Bard: College of Lore or Valor?

I've been working on a Paladin/Lore bard. She is an amazing buffer (4e leader) but needs to use spell slots to be effective in combat--either casting them or using them to smite. _if_ taking a cantrip is a legit thing to grab with the 6th level Lore ability, that will improve (I'm thinking...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock/Cleric Best of all Worlds

I agree with this. A Cleric 1/Warlock 10 will have some spells "known" from the warlock and cleric side. The Cleric side can change every long rest. But those cleric spells can only be 1st level. He can use a level 5 slot (from the Warlock) to cast those first level cleric spells. Is it...
