Dungeon Crawl 3.5 (recruiting (1-2 more))

I could be interested - either a Druid or Cleric or a combat tank (barbarian pref, but fighter as alternative) if theres still space. What sort of posting rate are you looking for? Check out this entry on Johnn Four's RPG tips page for some ideas on PbP.

Excited to Die: Do you keep backup characters?

In the main D&D campaign I'm playing in we have a fate point system meaning character death is pretty rare. This doesn't stop me coming up with ideas though, and I usually know what the next character I'd like to play is. As I gm as well as play lots of those concepts end up as fully statted...

    Vikings or Celts

Celts, but I'd go with an earlier dark ages setting - more sort of age of Arthur type thing when the Welsh and Irish could still be seen as pretty barbaric rather than a more feudal or medieval period.

    I am angry

Surely you need to know who to kill before you can do it and take their stuff. On a real world note: HR and try and meet one to one with the new boss to sort out working arrangements.

How easy do you find it to run NPC party members?

I get by, but I'm not as good as I'd like to be at it. With followers I like the idea of getting a different member of the party than the player whose character they follow to run them. I always get players to run them in combat, but will overrule suicidal and OOC actions - e.g its fine for a...

    Was D&D the first RPG?

In the UK we had Skirmish Wargames (historical games) with a 1:1 figure scale, named characters (usually only with a mini description and one stat reflecting experience: novice, trained or veteran). I'll have to try and dig up original publication dates for this stuff, the first set of rules...

    The Golden Age of Gaming

But back in the pre-internet days the collective community was pretty much you and your gaming group, that has been one of the big changes. Personally I'd see this as being a silver age possibly, but my golden age would be the late 70's- early 80's. MM, the unrepentant grognard

    Fish & Chips

In London there are less of the traditional Fish and Chip shops now, than there used to be, but there are a lot of kebab, chinese and indian takeaways around. Many chinese takeaways are also fish and chip shops, but not all. The other thing now seems to be Thai food in pubs and Vietnamese...

    Need Adventures

Looking at print and pdf stuff Necromancer has Wizard's Amulet/Crucible of Freya for 1st levels and Lost City of Barakus if you want a mini campaign. Otherwise there are some Dungeon Crawl Classics from Goodman Games. Otherwise there aren't heaps of 1st level modules around, apart from Dungeon...

    (December) What are you reading?

Programming Perl by Wall, Christiansen and Orwant. Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson - gives me some ideas for a 1-2 player campaign.

Fiction, rules, or setting first in a core book?

I voted setting first, fiction second, but tend to like books where the fiction and setting are woven round each other - e.g short intro fiction. Setting details (high level), next fiction excerpt, more setting info and then finish up fiction before rules content.

What is the greatest Movie from New Zealand

Though I voted just for LotR, I wished I'd also voted other and included Heavenly Creatures too as that is a really good movie. Bit scary how much of the NZ film industry consists of Peter Jackson.

    World Cup draw complete!

Only trouble is as its the last game in the group a draw particularly if the game is not too agressive might get accusations levelled of being a fixed result.

    Rystil's Next Game--You Pick!

I voted post-Arthurian as my luv of Arthurian romance kno no limit. :) Actually the homebrew sounds good too, but I've not got any great love for the published settings listed.

Comments and questions on 3.5 from a Newbie

I actually like the Blindfight feat for fighters as it helps against concealed or invisible opponents, especially for humans or other races without low-light or darkvision.
