    Spell Review Process

My normal play group has been toghther for over 20 years. In that time a fair number of spells have been created, most of those spells are in a non-digital format and are in OD&D or 2e format or exisist as nothing more than a name and a line of reminder text. I've decided to begin collecting...

    Community Wealth and Population

Which goes to show that you cannot use the rule strictly. I recall that the example given in the DM's guide is a bit ubsurd, something about a village of 40 having 30 long swords on hand or something like that. The rule is just a measuring stick that doesn't work well for common mundane...

    Community Wealth and Population

How long and how much, that is the question... Well, The DM's Guide is a bit vague on the subject of how long the local economy is exausted. I think that the economy rules are there just to have a base guideline, and some sort of rules stick to hit the players with when they are getting out of...

    Evil by birth?

Playing against type is a time honored tradition. If you have a game where the concept of a non-evil Vrock as a PC would work, the go ahead, allow it. I could be fun. Just be careful, a whole party of playing-against-type characters would be pretty boring. A player is usually making such a...

Advice for Dealing with Improved Trip Feat

Tripping heifer I have a player in one of my regular games who is going for a very similar technique. It can be reasonably effective, but I've gotten a couple of good ways to counter it. Improved Sunder - either on BBEG or BBEG's bodyguard. Wood is easy to sunder. Grappling - awful hard to...

What do you do to lead into the next adventure?

The seeds of the future are placed in the present. I try to build a campaign in such a way that the players have at least some idea of what is comming, or that the PCs know an area before the adventure happens. Last year I began running 3 campaigns at roughly the same time, all taking place...

    Teh.BEST.NPC.Evar!!!11!!!!

Best NPC Evar I think one of the best NPCs I ever ran was a cleric/mage named Glass. Glass was remembered as a huge pain in the ass, but most of all for his death which gave at least 2 players multiple nightmares and even now, 8+ years later, gives chills to at least one of them. Glass came...

How do you prepare/run your game...

No electronic aids. I've been running games for over 20 years and have found that the best aid is being familiar with the rules, the characters (PCs and NPCs), and the adventure. That being said, the supplement Everyone Else is excellent to keep at hand for those NPCs that the players just...

    Level Adjustment question !!

I wouldn't worry about a level adjustment. Just make the player suffer for his gain with new responsibilities. If you suddenly drop a level adjustment of +4 (just to pick a number on the low end of reasonable) on an epic level character they are going to need a signifigant amount of expierence...

Scroll spell casting blunder - could this happen?

I have to agree, just make it happen. Its an NPC doing something off screen, correct? When they start to get some idea of what has happened, throw out a bunch of clues, see what ideas the players come up with. I bet your players will believe what has happened if they guess something close...
